He can't provide much in the traditional sense of security at that point in time...hence the "I don't have much to offer". It doesn't help that his bestie keeps pointing out how broke he is. He has no family, no secure job yet (student), no house/car. Not sure why they disregard the importance of love, emotional support and future potential to provide.
