I went into Dear X really excited. The female lead, Ah-jin, had this cold, manipulative vibe that felt fresh compared to the usual K-drama heroines. For most of the show, she was fascinating to watch — unapologetic, mysterious, and always one step ahead. But the ending completely ruined it for me. Instead of keeping her strong or giving her a clever way out, the writers dragged her into memory loss, humiliation, and total downfall. I don’t mind dark stories, but watching the lead collapse like that felt more like punishment than storytelling. It erased everything that made her interesting. The supporting characters didn’t help either. Do-hyeok’s obsession and Jun-seo’s betrayal were written just to break her down, not to grow on their own. By the finale, it felt like the entire plot existed only to destroy Ah-jin. If you enjoy downfall arcs, maybe this will work for you. But if you’re like me and prefer leads who stay powerful or at least walk away with dignity, this drama is a disappointment. I dropped it because I can’t stand endings where the ML/FL loses everything.
