My guess is nobody cares. Online networks such as Tencent isn't interested in this show enough to buy it, TV stations are even more out of reach. If the film crew wants the show to be broadcasted, they may even have to pay money for these networks or TV stations which means the film crew worked for free which is not gonna happen.
We haven't had any new info or even a single new photo since the end of 2018, I guess the film crew might not even care that much about their product. The early reactions from the reveal back in 2018 weren't that great either.
All is my speculations but it's best to keep expectations very low.
If I recall the marketing for the 2006 version, we got news like every week for every little things. $$$ definitely can make thing differently like day and night...
Why? Aren't there literally like countless drama adaptations of the Return of the Condor Heroes already out there…
Lots of reason:
+ Want the new adaptations closer to the novel:
- I fell all the adaptations so far on reach 70% (the number is from my arse, don’t worry) of the novel and the directors added or changed, reduced, extended a lot of things, probably tried to leave their marks, but all of their new ideas are a lot worse than the original. Nice try if those directors think they can have better ideas than the author but I’m not against new ideas, as long they are BETTER or EQUAL to Jin Yong.
- Most of the important scenes are still not good enough in all adaptations so far.
- There are some scenes in the novel haven’t been on any adaptations so far. Hopefully new adaptations will have some of them.
+ Performance of the main characters: same as above, still a long way to go when comparing with the novel.
- Also, iirc, they kiss 3 times in the novel. New adaptations, don’t be shy because a lot of old adaptations didn’t have any kiss scenes at all (?). No need to make this show kid friendly in this day and age.
- Fighting scenes: almost all adaptations are crap compared to the novel or added a lot of bs. Since this one seems low on budget, I have no expectations.
...
Basically, there’re a lot of fun to have when a new adaptation released until we have a perfect adaptation which is not gonna happen in my life time. Actually, the comic side seems to do better than the tv show, even the anime (only first season) has some really good scenes.
To me, if wuxia that focus too much on the Imperial Court or Government or take place mostly in it, I classify those as “Ancient Costumes” genre: Princess Agent, Joy of Life, Nirvana in Fire,...
oh wow, it looks like this was really shot at Wudang, a UNESCO heritage site:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HbxIduacogo&t=17shttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iW66nTkM44U
The problem is real Wudang in 1500s wasn't that old or in bad state because of time like Wudang in 2017 from what the show repeatedly tells us that Wudang is a national sect. Not exactly convincing.
That's why, to me, real locations or not isn't that important. Just use that budget to build some nice random buildings and does not make it look too poor or old while stating "this is one of the biggest sect in the entire China".
I can't help wondering as I'm watching this if Liang Yusheng wasn't trying to do a parody of Jin Yong. The show…
Except the story is even worse and boring than tier 2 works from Jin Yong. I bet everyone expected the story is as good as HSDS from the first couple episodes because of how similar they are.
I love watching jin yong series. But i just wish they are hollywood level cgi budgets. I rather they remake same…
We already got the highest budget adaptations from China (it’s their first time, so they went all out) from 2001 to 2009.
I think we won’t see any future adaptations with high budget in my lifetime. These days, those adaptations only are used to promote new faces which mean low budget.
Is the 2006 version ”Return of the Condor Heroes” starring Huang Xiao Ming and Crystal Liu worth watching…
It has the highest budget (I doubt the second highest budget version costs half of the 2006 version) but compared to the novel this version is pretty shallow and only reach the surfaces. Looks nice but add lots of B.S martial arts and cut/reduce a lot of scenes. In video game language: bad game, high budget, good graphics.
I also don't like this version's XLN. For someone grows up in the seclusion and without a cent in the pocket, her manners always look like she is a princess or rich girl ojou-sama which completely contrast with the character in the novel.
But if you want to watch this show with English sub, there are only 2 choices: 2006 or 2014.
does yang kang become the antagonist because right now im getting pretty bad vibes from him but i don't want to…
What do you expect? Do you fight against the one who feed you when you were born even they're not your real parents. Yang Kang was born and rised in another country, why do he have to fight for the enemy of his country?
I’m so disappointed!! Does that mean it’s a bad drama ??
I mean it is very low budget (maybe a lot lower than 2014 version). Nobody cares and the show (people who worked on it) doesn’t seem to have the money to ask streaming platforms or TV stations to air.
On the contrary, Legend of Fei which was announced on 6/20 already finished airing. That’s the power of hot show.
Many comments reveal she is 15 or 16 in the novel. In the show, we can dig the timeline to find out but I’m not interested in the character enough to do it especially I already have the answer from novel readers
I’m in 16 episode so far and in every episodes the writers feel the need to remind the viewers that Zhou Fei is the most beautiful, talented at such a young age (15?). It’s less boring if they use new words, phrases, proverbs instead of re use the same words repeatedly.
No wonder nowadays there’s less pure wuxia works and when we have, they’re just mediocre at best.
I still watch because I’m impressed with the speed of its announcement and airing in less than half a year, definitely something to remember among countless complaints that many shows have to wait for years to have a chance to air after finishing filming and editing .

You’re right about her main weapon but she actually carries a lot of stuffs like a magician in her kind of Doraemon pocket.
