Despite the high rating I'm so conflicted about this one
This one absolutely had me deep in my feels. And the story was more interesting than a lot of dramas. But I also found it frustrating to watch.On the positive side, Earth is soooo dreamy when they let him play a grown ass man. I don't enjoy boyish roles for him, so this was peak (along with Moonlight Chicken). It was a good casting decision and he did a good job.
I cannot overstate the fabulousness of the coming out scene for Tian. I think it might be the best one in BL history. That alone made this worth watching!
The story was pretty interesting. There were kids, villagers, and a villainous overlord with more control issues than business sense. All very intriguing!
Now for the negatives. I liked the relationship development...to a point. There was good romantic development but then it got to be annoying to me. It was a slow burn but with some unnecessary complications. Slow burn is usually tension, catalyst, confession. This series was more of a tension, catalyst, no confession cycle ultimately leading to a confession very late in the storytelling.
Full disclosure, I'm not a fan of the final episode confession. I'd rather see the dating era of the MLs. It's admittedly complicated here, but I felt like I never really got to fully enjoy them being in love.
Also, some of the emotional moments needed to be edited down. I feel manipulated when shows drag out scenes they know will make you cry. That happened a few times here.
Overall I'd still recommend, but there was room for improvement.

Stronger start than finish but I still had a good time
This started with a bang for me. The humor was just stupid enough to win my heart, and Maxky played it so well. I loved that inital energy a LOT. And they maintained that for a solid 8 episodes. The remaining two weren't terrible, but they lacked that same energy.My favorite part was Maxky's comedic acting. Thats when this one really shined. Its goofy funny, to be clear, but it was very well executed. I was less enthused about Bas/Zo. Zo was a good counterpoint to Maxky/Thi, but they painted him too softly. I'm glad they didnt make him a brat, but he always presented as too sweet for my taste.
The supporting cast was decent. I especially liked Jeng/Laem. The second couple was definitely nice on the eyes, but their story was too choppy and complicated.
And there was too much gameplay, especially in the final episode. Compared to how the gaming was presented in the opening episode, which totally sold me on this series, it wasn't as interesting.
It was a good watch, but its competing with other currently airing comedies like Duty First (which maybe isnt a fair comparison because it is outshining most of what's out there, past or present). And I dont think I would rewatch this one.

This is getting the rating it deserves
This isnt the worst but it's not the best by any means.The concept is fine, but the execution is off. Part of the issue is the short format, but that's not the whole problem. The acting is very stiff. The lack of emotion, even in the NC scene, is incredible. It just lacked expression. Everything was very flat.
And the ending is weird, not bad just weird. I want a cross between this one and the Vietnamese BL My Little Ghost. A little more time with the story here and a little less ridiculousness there. A little more emotion here and a little less campy there. It would be perfection!

Young cutie and older cutie being cute together while cooking and eating
This is a comfort BL for me. I came here after Kishi Knight for Tanaka-san, and I was not disappointed. Kishi Knight is better overall, but this was a sweet story with low drama and supportive side characters. There's nothing particularly original about this story but it's satisfying. I like the MLs and their honest internal narration of their emerging feelings. I like BLs that center around cooking, so that was a win for me. And I loved how warm their interactions were throughout. I also appreciate that this wasn't a coming out story. Love who you love, sweeties!Was this review helpful to you?
I liked this even though I wasnt expecting to
I was so annoyed with the special episode after the first season. Like super annoyed! I thought about just bouncing after that. I'm glad I didn't. This made me enjoy the overall series (both seasons) much more. If you're gonna watch season 1 you must watch season 2. Lesson learned.The S2 story was interesting albeit a little strained in parts. The lack of communication trope in BL is one of the most frustrating ones for me. It gets resolved as it always does but ugh.
I love the chemistry between the mains, even when they're fighting. Also there is a second and third couple here. One doesnt get enough screen time. The other gets more context but doesnt take us on the full emotional journey of how they end up together.
It's not a perfect story, but its a good one.

This is not BL but you should watch it
If you are expecting BL (I was) and are incapable of pivoting (I am) you won't like this. I made the adjustment and binged this relatively short series in one go. I found the first episode really annoying and almost stopped watching. Stick it out. It gets more interesting. I didnt necessarily love the main characters, but I dont think I was supposed to. This isnt a feel good series. Its a realistic slice of life series that doesnt end with a bouquet of roses. I was surprised to find myself very invested and quite emotional by the end of the last episode. I would not have predicted that at the conclusion of episode 1.Was this review helpful to you?
The kiss is everything
I realize many folks watch BL just for the kissing. And I'm not gonna pretend like I don't enjoy that as well. The big kiss here is everything; I mean, damn. It is the most polished, intense, emotive scene in the entire series. It says so much without any words. Its sexy, but it's WAY more than just a sexy kiss. It's the culmination of every emotion contained in this drama. And it was brilliantly acted! I felt all the feels. Just a really well executed moment that perfectly captured everything it was supposed to.There are a lot of good and not as good moments throughout this series, but overall I think its a satisfying watch. And it is actually trying to say something beyond the love story. I find Pinoy BL to be less polished than Thai and other countries with a more developed industry, but this was a very respectable contribution to the canon. And the music is also really good and fits the drama.
Tune into this one. I think you'll enjoy it.

Go watch Sweetheart Service instead
It started ok. I get the premise. And I'm the weirdo who likes dom/sub relationships in a series. (My Personal Weatherman, LITA, Thundercloud Rainstorm) But after the first episode, it just got more and more incomprehensible. The writers clearly don't understand BDSM at all. I can tell and I'm not that well versed myself. It a hot mess, y'all!Production was bad. Script was bad. Directing was bad. Just bad bad bad.
And yet, somehow I liked the lead actors enough to want to see more of them! There's something sweet and adorable about those two! The fact that they survived this madness for me is a testament to their chemistry and charm. But this is otherwise comically bad.

This is a true romantic comedy and I loved it!
I for real laughed out loud while watching this series during almost every episode. Yes, it is silly. Yes it trots out at least one gay relationship trope that I could have done without. Yes, there were a few strained acting moments. But overall this is a gem!I like shows that have women characters that aren't just playing the foil. This had a few of them.
I like funny BLs. This one was just zany enough to hit my funny bone but not overly absurd or stupid.
And it also had heart. There was a love story or two. There were real emotions that were earned. There were twists and turns that kept it interesting. I was really drawn into the roller coaster of emotions.
I waited a looong time to watch this. I'm really glad I tuned in. So satisfying!

Season 1 was my jam, but I have thoughts on a rewrite for Season 2 (or 3?)
I love PoohPavel! Pavel has the most expressive face I've ever seen. And the man is also a top shelf drop dead gorgeous cryer. I mean, like Ziyu in Revenged Love level of crying game. How does he ugly cry and still look both convincing and hot AF? His O face is pretty sweet too.And Pooh is so adorable. I enjoyed watching my baby boo try to run things. (I thought his acting was better in Goddess Bless... but maybe that's just me.)
And thank the lord for a dominating bottom and pretty top. Honestly, can someone start writing vers mains into BL? Part of what I enjoy about BL is the break from the patriarchy. Dont bring it back through uke/seme tropes!
I love so many things about this show. But I wasn't totally feeling the presmise underlying the second season or the storytelling. That made it hard for me to fully enjoy because I was like WTF all the time. Write a more cogent story (in S2) that I can care about. And dont do ridiculous things.

Seriously, you guys could have called me. I would have written the second season for you. I dont have it completely worked out, but Charlie would have absorbed an enigma's powers in season 1 so we could have the big reveal in season 2. And at some point this would have resulted in Charlie impregnating Babe. I dont know whether this is an Incredibles situation where the baby has a shit ton of powers or if its a kidnapping plot or both. But it ain't what you fools wrote in S2. Anyway, writers, call me. We can work out the details. Season 3 will be great!

Seven years later this is still a good watch
There are some cheesy acting moments, especially in the fighting scene choreography.Other than that, this was divine. The story was interesting. The chemistry of the main and second couple was great. The mains were so so good. Their interactions felt so sincere. The second couple was adorable.
The story wasnt entirely predictable but it wasn't outrageous either. The flow was good and the emotional peaks and valleys were earned.
I'm glad I decided to watch this one!

The music alone makes this worth watching
Damn, the music is good! And I can't find the entire OST! Please, for the love of humanity, release the soundtrack in its entirety. It's really that good.I love the chemistry between the leads. The acting was good. And actor Jeong Ri U just does it for me. He is so handsome and his voice is so sultry.
They could have leaned into the dom/sub aspect more but I won't complain too much about that. When it was steamy it was so good. When it was sweet it was adorable. When it was painful it was brutal.
The story could have had a better flow. There were some unnecessary plot lines. But overall I enjoyed watching these two.

Watch the second couple through episode 8 then bounce
Ugh. This was so painful. And let me be clear, it was painful before the writers completely gutted the best part of the story.The 3 best things were the second couple, the Black support character, and the kids.
I liked the main couple's acting but I hated their story. It was a strained premise that was made worse by drawing out the unearned resolution for almost the entire series. Ridiculous.
The second couple gave me life. I tuned in specifically to follow them. But the writers destroyed it unnecessarily but literally killing their relationship. The same point about cherishing the one you love in the moment could have been made without offing one of them.
My other complaint was the misses on the NC scenes. Don't act like we are seeing everything because the timing is too short to be the real deal. It feels weird. And dont get into impossible positions. Its distracting.
Overall, blech. Decent to great acting was wasted on a crap script. So annoying.

This pulled me in more than I was expecting and didn't let go
This popped up while I was looking for my next Netflix watch. I loved BKPP in I Told Sunset About You—the acting was incredible, and their chemistry was almost unbearable in that series.I haven’t seen the Taiwanese original of this one, so I didn’t know what to expect, but it ended up being a really satisfying watch. The comedy worked well, with strong timing and natural chemistry, and the drama hit the right emotional notes without feeling overdone. I especially enjoyed watching the gradual warmth develop in their relationship. Grandma was a standout and added a lot of heart.
The story included a few twists, but nothing felt out of sync. Even when I knew what was coming, the emotional moments still landed because of how thoughtfully they were handled (and the acting).
I enjoyed this from start to finish, and no scene felt wasted. Highly recommend. I’m only taking off half a star because it came a little too close to body‑shaming one character, which stood out in an otherwise enjoyable film.

End of mission is so important...
I was so ready for this. Vampires. Men kissing. BounPrem. Barcode. And the rest of the cast as well. And I was totally into it for most of the series. But the ending was so rushed and unsatisfying to me! It was building, building, building then BOOM...over.I was invested in the main characters. I was invested in the side characters. I enjoyed the plot twists. But then it just stopped.
I'm rating it fairly high because I really did enjoy the ride...until it abruptly ended.
I need a second season or sequel.
