I'm really mad about Hunan TV's editing, it's SO choppy. ep 17 and 18 had several major conflicts that were spread over 2 days and chopped off really badly gah.

I've watched the up to 20 now, I feel like she's being used as a parallel compared Lan Jie? Huang Ruhong's wife, which is interesting. It's very weird, I can take the unstableness and the abortion in theory but watching it, I still think it could be better somehow.

Small note, Glory of Tang was filmed before he got married, and he's absolutely a traffic actor now (smaller than yang yang, but he's still traffic thanks to Under the Power), who got popular from romance dramas, so I think it's fair to expect certain things.

Oh if you like Steven, for down to earth ensemble cast school drama, you could also try My Huckleberry Friends. His historical drama Young Blood was super fun too. Have fun with the dramas!

it's because this is a daylight drama, and they like working with familiar actors, there are lot of returning cast members from other dramas

for family drama, romance of our parents, the 2014 drama
for sort of similar to nothing but thirty, ode to joy? rational life (should be on netflix) might work too but it's more idealistic, also less ensemble cast

for down to earth slice of life featuring ladies working in big cities: remembrance of things past, the beginning is bit depressing but i promise the general tone is fairly uplifting. I heard the subs are little iffy though.
for slightly happier slice of life featuring 30+ ladies (the romance is NOT the main point of the drama, it's there though, with a young guy): Rational Life, should be on netflix?

Glad to find a fellow TVB fans, I need to rewatch the classics to rerate those dramas to be honest. Hope you like Cross Fire and Winter Begonia, they were definitely both very unique and amazing.

chinese web novels have fair amount interesting concepts and they've all been around for awhile, but not a lot of them gets adapted into dramas. e.g. romance of tiger and rose use the matriarchy as a plot gimmick so it's pretty fresh, but it's an entire subgenre in web novels.

I personally liked a lot of concepts in JoL. As long as you enjoyed the story, it's all good :)

Aside from that, your complaint is fairly on point, cnetizens often complain about way too expensive outfits and bags for characters, and even more noticeable, massive apartments for newly graduates or something lol.

Just a note, the joy of life background twist is from the novel, what the drama added was the first 5 minutes of the drama, where ML is working on a thesis and they literally spell out the theme of the story.

the head scriptwriter was contracted to write several scripts for another company, big adaptation ip ones (joy of life, douluo continent and sword snow stride) so there's no sign of season two yet. three of the six cast member went on and had pretty well recieved dramas this year, so it'd be harder to get them back for schedule reason too mhmm.

Gank your heart's game in the book is league of legends, in the drama, it's mix of LOL and DoTA. It's the same type of games, but those are played on pc, while this one is on mobile, and technically take shorter time + bit easier. The game exist for international audience too I think. The Chinese version is also called Honor of Kings, while the international version is called Arena of Valor
