i saw talks that Chang Chen went with Love & destiny instead of this? I thought the filming times didn't clash, but they did apparently. L&D July till Dec 2018, this one Feb till Dec 2018 (wow that's a long time, no wonder it was 80 ep before). L&D's script was written with CC in mind though, and I think they spent a year+ getting him to agree. ZZY was wowed by ZYW's acting in late 2017? if they haven't met before.

re: novel, that's cos the second prince isn't really relevant at the moment lol.

the first 8 ep have fair amount of original stuff in it, probably because they have to lay out the relationship and flesh out the supporting cast. the bit about CP didn't happen yeah, i think Wan Ru was just picked as his wife but I'm not super sure.

the novel is from like 15 years ago and the tropes used are fairly standard these days (i don't think they were that original back then but it's not as common as now for sure). the novel is largely well known for its relative realism in romance web novels + protag isn't some naive nice girl.

they are long time rivals and all of that (idk about if accident was actually ye's doing, could go either way, again, dumb plot). that doesn't really mean that any of ye, fan or suosuo knew he was going to be there. fan jingang was surprised and realised too late who he was and tried to get suosuo to run.

suo suo got mad because she truly think it's love and it stings that someone she consider a friend is assuming she likes ye for the money. it's not about money to her. she says she likes old men because a) her taste in men does lean that way b) it's to hurt him. she literally called him a kid.

someone summarised that conversation, it was really funny because they were purposely stinging each other when this was meant to be a proposal.

she hates her in the novel too lol.

??????? where the bloody hell are they getting it from lmaooooooooooo. even the episode synopsis till the ending (i didn't read it cos i don't want that detailed spoilers but I do know the general gist) we got goes with the novel trajectory.

they didn't change it, that's how it was always going to be.

because ye jin yan is acutely aware of their age difference and how the world will treat them if they do get together, she doesn't care but he cares. so while he treats her fairly normal, he take care of her TOO MUCH, even if you take into account that he promised a friend.

she doesn't end up with him, I don't really like the relationship, but it is part of the novel and they adapted it somewhat because it make sense for her character. some people think they didn't keep enough of it, some think they kept too much, I thought he would be a mentor, but i think it's mix of mentor/love not meant to be. but if it's too iffy, i think you can interpret it as mentor/fatherly relationship. (I think the bs he puts up with make more sense if she's secretly his daughter, cos i think even if you were romantically interested in someone, the things he let her get away with is just way too dumb)

i do rather she stays single and just be independent, but suo suo, despite what she claims in the drama, isn't the independent one. it's nan sun.

if she married ye jin yan, i'd want her to find a different job.

also ????? he didn't put her in danger? he didn't know some guy would go after them, and fan jin gang specifically told her to go back to the hotel, she didn't listen. the entire plot point is goddamn awful and i hate it.

i don't think they are expecting viewers to accept it? keeping in controversial things could give more depth to the character, it make sense for her. which is why i explained it.

I didn't like any of the boyfriends to be honest. WYZ is most likeable on paper but in practice, he's still only so so to me. XHZ is odd, Dong Zi Jian really wouldn't be my choice for the character and I didn't think he could work with Ni Ni, but he does! and he made a rather average character on paper very charming. I just wish he was actually independent like suosuo wants.

big same on ye jin yan, and LOL i know that drama, i was like noooo. I think they wanted to keep some of the stuff from original novel and it'd be controversial, but i don't think they worked it too well. chen dao ming looked too old here, what with tan skin + white hair + terrible wardrobe choice that people keep speculating that he's doing it on purpose to play up the age difference to discourage him as a choice, because he CAN look much better. or he just liked playing golf too much without putting on enough sunscreen mhm. XD

i mostly wish she just focused on her career. career that should have be written better skhfsdkfhsjk. big sigh.

you are entirely correct that it could go either way, there's been spoilers of future ep on cnet though (from newspapers about tv programs, because this airs on cctv 8, so there's ep synopsis for the upcoming week), which is why i'm fairly certain about general trajectory. She went oversea but her potential husband is WYZ's cousin or something i think.

The leaving her kid with Nansun thing is an option that was bought up in the novel as well. Considering it's set in modern times, I think it's much more likely she'll stay and raise the child with Nansun's help.

I think Liu Shishi fits her role pretty well here tbh? Her arc is also better written, writing wise because it's the core plot of the novel, while Ni Ni's is mostly original, so sometimes it's pretty fun, sometimes it's are you kidding me?

xie hong zu is momma's boy. he's not independent at all, if she married him, she'd have to deal with a mother-in-law that really dislikes her, and also look down on her. a lot of your usual rich mum tropes, except the novel predates most of those dramas. the drama specifically mention that she wants to marry for love, he's great and all but she just doesn't love him. that said, she has shared some bonding moments with him and it's not hard to see with time, she might come around. she genuinely like him as a friend and want him to do well and be independent.

as for controversial ye jin yan. in the novel, he's married, and she was having an affair with him. he definitely liked her, like her enough to give her money and affection, but not enough to divorce. they changed it in the drama so he's single, it's little unclear if he likes her. you could make argument that he treats her like a daughter (which would make a lot of dumb shit suosuo does and ye jin yan just let her make sense), or that he do like her but he's too aware of the age difference.

as for why she likes him. she has daddy issues, is anyone surprised? she lacked parental care and really want affection from father figure. so her choice in men leans that way too. in the drama, i think it's partially because some people around her hint that he likes her, so she start paying attention, and he always came when she most needed it, so she started becoming infatuated. her taste in men lean towards mature men that have their own careers. they might not have to be rich, but that'd be a bonus.

note that it's not about money in the drama (in the novel, money plays a much bigger role because it was written in the 80s and set in hk, different times), the drama specifically changed her character so that while she wants a lot of money, it's not the only thing that matters to her (she broke up with mr. ma because he lied to her and embezzled money to create false hope, NOT because he's just a driver. although you could argue if he was a driver to start with, she wouldn't have liked him).

it's because she wanted a home, that's her dream and he offered that to her. she was also in much more precarious situation at the time, she felt deeply uncomfortable at her uncle's, because there were always bit of distance from them, and they were really intent on marrying her off to someone she didn't like.

The novel itself is a happy ending, she dies in the epilogue which is several years later. she dies very young so that's why it's sad ending.

you remembered wrong, her daughter is with xie hong zu. the wedding in the trailer is with him too.

it's an adaptation of a novel, the movie is very loose adaptation of the novel and changed a lot of the novel LOL.
