News Love Was Never Meant to Be Perfect
“From now on I want to be part of every item on your bucket list.”
After seeing everyone talk about this drama, I couldn’t wait to start it. It was already on my list, but seeing all the amazing reviews made me even more excited to finally give it a try. And honestly, saying I loved it feels like a massive understatement because I LOVED this C-drama SO MUCH.
🌺 One of my favorite things about The Early Spring was seeing how much both main characters grew throughout the story. Zhi Tao/Flora especially had such amazing development. If you compare her to the woman we meet at the beginning, she changes so much. She becomes more confident, spontaneous, mature, and much more willing to make her own choices instead of constantly worrying about what other people think. I really loved watching her slowly become more comfortable with herself.
And then we have Luan Nian/Luke, who... boy, you had some work to do. He starts off so arrogant and emotionally guarded, but little by little we get to see what’s underneath all of that. He learns to put his pride aside, becomes more vulnerable, and most importantly, actually fights for the person he loves. I really enjoyed seeing him realize that loving someone also means being honest, communicating, and being willing to change.
🌺 The romance was definitely one of the biggest highlights for me. These two had SO much history and emotional baggage between them, so their relationship was never just about falling in love. It was about figuring out how to love each other better after everything they had been through.
There were misunderstandings, separation, back-and-forth, and plenty of moments where I wanted to shake them both, but at the same time, I understood why they struggled so much. They were both flawed people who had hurt each other in different ways, and neither of them was exactly the same person they had been years before.
What I loved most was seeing them slowly realize just how important they were to each other. No matter how much time passed or how complicated things became, that connection was always there. They had to grow individually before they could really meet each other as equals, and I think that made their reunion and relationship feel much more meaningful.
🌺 AND THE CHEMISTRY??? HELLO??? The chemistry between Jing Bo Ran and Victoria Song was honestly insane. Their interactions had this natural tension that made even their quieter scenes interesting. You could feel all the history between their characters, especially because there was so much left unsaid between them.
They had the kind of chemistry that made people start shipping the actors in real life, which is weird considering Jing Bo Ran has had a girlfriend for several years. But I can’t even blame people for seeing the chemistry because these two really sold their relationship.
There was always this push and pull between them—affection, frustration, attraction, resentment, longing—and I was completely invested in it. Even when they weren't saying much, you could tell there was so much happening underneath the surface.
🌺 I also really liked that this drama wasn't trying to portray love as something perfect. It showed how two people can genuinely love each other and still hurt each other, make mistakes, misunderstand one another, and need time apart to grow.
Their story is basically a reminder that loving someone isn't always enough if you aren't willing to grow as a person. Both of them had things they needed to work through, and their years apart allowed them to become better versions of themselves. When they finally came back into each other's lives, they weren't the same people anymore.
🌺 I do have a tiny complaint, though. I REALLY wish we had gotten one more episode. The ending wasn't bad at all, but I couldn't help feeling like things were wrapped up a little too quickly after everything we had gone through with them. One extra episode to let them breathe, enjoy their relationship, and properly close some of the emotional threads would have been PERFECT.
But honestly, that didn't take away from how much I enjoyed the drama overall. The story kept me invested, the characters grew on me so much, and the romance had me completely hooked. So yeah, I absolutely loved this drama. It’s definitely one I would recommend with my eyes closed.
