In many scenes of lby in the Palace, I really think his status is no difference with that of a Prince. He needs to attend all sort of royal family functions, seated next to the 3rd or Crown Prince. N if we r to notice, in the official court, the study/ non general based (wen) official are all wearing blue court robes while official w General (wu) title are wearing red robes. All the princes wear their own usual robes. N lby also wear his usual, not red or blue court robes. This really makes me think that he is in a very interesting position. He never need to fight for the throne but with his position n capability, the fight for the throne will no doubt involved him whether he wants it or not or whether he is far or near. He has a very important vote in his hand. Also As he is raised by empress. Officially in name he is empress clan. So it means whether he agrees or not, siding crown Prince is expected.
Me think he is trying to help the crown Prince. Advising him, strategize for him, but he also knew he is not capable enough. In fact many actions shows that 3rd Prince is the right material. In the end, everyone in that family need to remember they will never be a normal family. Empress, consort, princes n princess are always royal subjects first then wives, sons n daughters second.
