Mark Chao’s adaptation has better visual effects, and thus looks more beautiful overall. Story wise, I also…
it’s because of the director’s past plagiarism scandal from a decade ago, some people in the industry wrote a petition and the cinemas association ended up agreeing not to screen his movie anymore as punishment
To anyone who has seen both the Mark Chao adaptation and this one, which is better?
Mark Chao’s adaptation has better visual effects, and thus looks more beautiful overall. Story wise, I also like that one better cause I’m a fan of the novel and original Japanese movies. This one is based on the game, so I can’t really feel the same sense of nostalgia and excitement. Also, the close relationship between the two male leads (like in the original novel and Japanese movies) are basically nonexistent, so, it’s like watching Sherlock Holmes, but Watson is not his best friend, just a random dude who exists in the same universe.
But this one wasn’t bad, it’s a good and fun fantasy movie, just, the visual effects are a bit all over the place, and I don’t really like it cause of my personal preference.
Box office wise, the Chen Kun version of the movie only managed to earn like half of what the other movie earned (and might never earn more than this one when all is said and done), despite the fact that the Mark Chao movie was pulled from the cinema in less than 2 weeks. So, commercially, this one doesn’t perform well in China.
Enemy to lovers, a love story 70k years in the making lol
