Actors were so well chosen for the characters. Story was absolutely great.
I loved the story, I loved the characters and I just loved the overall series. This is one of those rare series/movies where it seems like the actors were made to play their parts. Wei Wu Xian and Lan Wang Ji were such beautiful souls in such different ways. The way their relationship was portrayed in the series was perfect. Not only were these two characters wonderful, the other characters like the sister, the child and so many supporting characters that just made you care for them, love them and feel for them - I think this is one of the most important elements in a good series.So many scenes made me cry, made me laugh, made me go 'awww'. The story, the pace, the setting, the characters, everything, made this drama what it was. This is definitely one of my top dramas. I would absolutely recommend this.
There was a flaw in my opinion though. There was one scene that made me cringe because it felt forced and lame, it lasted only a few seconds but I remember it quite well. It would be interesting to know if anyone felt the same way about it or even know which scene I'm talking about haha.
Overall, one of my top picks.
FYI, I don't like 10 ratings and I think kisskh ratings are generally too high. So on kisskh I rate them relative to other dramas and which ones I would expect to see in the top rated selection.

Love the world. The love is addictive.
When the series came out, I didn’t want to watch it because of an incident with the main actress Yang Mi. But everyone was raving about it so I caved. All I can say is Yang Mi really knows how to pick the winners.The story is good but I think it’s the way the drama was done that is so appealing. It’s so beautiful and relaxing that you kind of just enjoy all the scenes. The supporting cast is fantastic and it wouldn’t be what it is without them. The characters and their interactions are probably what make the show so addictive.
The setting was absolutely gorgeous and it just looked like a high budget series.
For the romance lovers out there, this was definitely made for you. I think it is at the top of the list for those who like love stories.

This is not the completed series. There are seasons following.
For those of you that don't know, this is not a completed series and the season ends on a cliffhanger. I thought it was important to mention because if you are like me and are used to Asian dramas not having multiple seasons, you will be in for a surprise. I was quite annoyed when I got to the ending only to find that the story was not completed. I like binge watching and cliffhangers are my pet peeve.Now that is out of the way, the story is quite interesting. You are always in for a surprise and the story is never dull. The main character is witty and a master thinker. I loved the supporting characters, particularly the brother who always cracked me up every time he appeared. I also loved the relationships between the main character and his family and friends. The story is exciting, the scenes have a lot of humour and the storylines are unpredictable.
The reason I gave the story an 8.5 but overall 9 rating is because I did not like how the story begins but the overall story was great. I think it is lazy for a writer to begin a story by making it known that it is a story and just jump from the present to the past. I almost dropped it. Luckily I continued watching because it was a unique story and I'm always one for dramas with stories that are not overdone (like the typical historical political palace dramas where the ladies fight for power with one ultimate "Legend of...").
I would definitely recommend this drama if you are willing to wait for more seasons to come.
