I honestly don't remember the last time an ending made me feel this happy.
Payback had been affecting me for a while, episode 9 left was so hard to watch it left such a weight on me that I didn't know what to expect from the finale. There was still so much to resolve and so many characters who deserved a real ending. I was prepared to be disappointed because that's what normally happens when a series tries to close everything in one episode.
But this time they actually did it.
Jay was fucking awesome. Watching him finally take control of everything after everything he'd been carrying was so satisfying. He wasn't helpless and he wasn't waiting for someone else to fix things for him. He knew exactly what he was doing and seeing it all come together was one of the best parts of the entire series.
Sun finally got the ending he deserved too. He'd spent so much time living with anger, guilt and the need for revenge that seeing him finally reach the end of it all felt like he could breathe again. Bank got what he deserved, but Sun got something much more important. He got the chance to stop living only because of what had happened to him.
And then there's Sky. I'm so happy they didn't forget him or treat what happened to him like it didn't matter. After everything he went through, he deserved more than just being fine in the background while everyone else's story was resolved. Seeing him get his own ending made me genuinely happy.
That's what made this finale so special to me. It wasn't only about Jay and Sun being together. It was about everyone finally reaching the end of the pain they'd been carrying. Bank faced the consequences of his actions. Sky got the future he deserved. Jay finally won his fight. Sun finally had something to live for beyond revenge.
Nothing felt forgotten. Nothing important was left unfinished. For once, I didn't finish a series thinking about all the things they should've explained or all the characters they pushed aside because they ran out of time.
They closed everything properly.
And after the weight of episode 9, that happiness hit me even harder. I can't stop crying, but it's not because the ending hurt me. It's because these characters had suffered so much and, for once, the story didn't punish them until the final second.
It finally let them be happy.
This is the first BL I've ever finished crying from pure happiness. It may sound stupid, but this series really got to me and this ending left my heart completely full.
10/10. They gave this story the ending it deserved.
