Indeed he’s the best version of real Ming They will not let Ming be a copy of the book or an imitation because the audience will not accept him at all. The goal is for the audience to sympathize with Ming from the series, because in the end it must end with Joe. Just a smal spoiler, to know who Ming is. Before Joe escaped, he was imprisoned.
