I really like this article with Chinese dramas pumping out in large volumes.
What started me getting into Chinese dramas was the historical costumes. When it comes to plain historical and historical fantasy dramas, I certainly agree that the best in Asian dramas are the Chinese ones.
1. If you actually want a historical costume drama that is historically accurate, look for dramas that airs on Chinese TV and not usually on Chinese web dramas. Only few of these web dramas cares for historical accuracy.
I am really picky with modern Chinese dramas since a lot of the dubbing sounds like chalk coming into contact with a chalkboard. Not only that, as an international viewer, there are some dramas that shoehorns the Chinese government's values and beliefs which puts me off. This is the reason why I prefer Chinese costume dramas since some of the culture is quite understandable in the context of the timeline and the world these dramas are set.
I really love the format of this show and I am so happy that the Senior-dols are now regular guests of the show. Each of the members have their own charms.
I found myself enjoying this drama (was in my watchlist for a long time and decided only to watch this while waiting for new episodes of Marry Me 2020 ) though some of the shots snapped me out of that "costume fantasy". These shots included modern cement walls and buildings.
The story and dialogue were decently structured and I really like the chemistry of the leads. I also did not mind the writers changing the occupation of the characters from what they were originally in the novel (ML was an emperor and FL was a crossdressing eunuch). Overall, an enjoyable weekend watch.

Sadly a lot of novel to drama adaptation suffer from this. The story gets either draggy or the characters are changed that they barely resemble their novel counterparts.
This drama reminds me of a soap opera that you'll enjoy if you watch it on a weekend where you literally have nothing to watch. This drama is so full of TELL in the last episodes instead of showing it to the audience to keep them engaged. ahahaha

From what I understand, like a lot of Asians, she's this character with an American dream and for as long as I can remember, it has been her dream to go to New York. Her being an English teacher kinda solidifies that?
As for Takane's attraction, it's kinda difficult to explain why he fell in love with her in the first place but character tropes like him are kinda plenty in a lot of stories that are usually read as guilty pleasures.
It's been a while since I watched this drama and I really enjoyed it since there was a time I was interested with monk romances. ahahahaha
I really liked that they toned down Takane's character so that he seems less toxic. I definitely prefer the drama's lead characters over their manga counterpart by a huge margin.
