I suppose the point of it is that he isn't sure if it is a dream and thus the audience also has to wonder if it…
I guess you're right and it is actually quite thought provoking. What do you make of the scene when he decides to jump from the roof to go back and save his friends? This scene convinced me that him waking up was actually a dream within a dream...
Time travel plots can go wrong in so many ways and I can’t decide if Life on Mars did everything right or everything wrong... it’s a well paced, well balanced drama, mellow and suspenseful all at once, best of all it skillfully avoids annoying paradoxes, but by doing so it basically makes everything that happened beyond the first episode pointless (?) ... If everything is a construct of his subconscious there is no real danger, no real consequences and thus no suspense, also, there’s no chance of actually solving anything ... this really frustrates me! But I still can’t hate this drama though
