The director mentioned that season 2 is set in 1979. This makes me think Baek Gitae’s character is inspired by the CIA director who assassinated President Park Chung Hee.

I think it's cuz season 1 is set in 1970 and season 2 is in 1979 – a pretty crazy year with lots of political chaos and the president getting killed. Makes me wonder if Hyunbin's character is inspired by the KCIA director who assassinated President Park Chung Hee.
