OK, I believe that all his worries , cries , care , attention ,not letting go and throwing up are for the guilt he feels for what his mom has done, and stealing, what wasn't his , and not for the soul connection he felt for his friend
felt so bad for the girl , and well , the way they actually wrote her character isn't helping ( she's annoying ( this is a personal opinion for sure ))
