Agreed. I asked some to share how they rate and quite frankly it makes no sense at all. One saying that they rate all a 10 if they finished it! I'm just going to ignore the ratings and comments because they seem untethered from objective reality.
I think it's best just to watch a few episodes yourself before deciding whether to continue or not and ignore the ratings and comments. The ratings here are basically nonsense because most users use their own rating system as opposed to the most common understanding of how a rating out of 10 works and what a review actually is. They're also not based on any objective criteria just vibes and feelings. If you try and point this out, you get harangued by emotional users defending people even though no one has attacked them. There are a few that do keep a consistent approach but they are certainly in the minority! Keep this in mind and let people watch and enjoy whatever they want/however they want.

I'm glad you're enjoying the show and thank you for sharing your thoughts! At 9+, I'd expect it to be one of the best shows a person has seen rather than just a good show. I usually reserve 9+ ratings for shows I feel are some of the best in their genre that I have seen. I feel like it should be a high bar! Not yucking on anyone's yum just intrigued by the ratings process.
I'm so confused by people rating this a 9/9.5/10 after only 4 episodes. No offense but I think a rating of 9+ should be reserved for shows you think are some of the best you've ever seen. This is a decent show but it's more a 7/7.5 for me. So far, it's a fun show that is best watched with your brain off.
I see that you too suffer from the curse of thinking about everything in a drama! This is one for which your logical, rational thinking brain needs to be turned off but I find it hard to do that. A very well written, thorough review echoing many of my thoughts too.
Finally, an objective, analytical review! Every now and again there's a show just like this: popular and well watched but actually rather mediocre, poorly written with plot holes and nonsensical or underdeveloped events all over the place. Generic is a very good word to describe it.
I've watched the first 5 episodes which I think is enough to decide whether I'd like it or not. I don't think I do. I kept thinking that it was over the top so I thought I checkout some reviews for this very highly rated show and then I saw you mention makjang and it clicked why I didn't like it. I was getting bored so I started skimming through the episode when I saw one the most appalling excuses for a beard I've ever seen. Switched off immediately.
This show knows exactly what it is. It does not pretend to be a particularly heartwrenching romance. It does not pretend to have clever or good humour. It does not pretend to have a complicated, interesting plot. In that sense, it is a good show. Not amazing but it is fun.
Lovely Runner tried to be all these things and failed miserably but was loved so much despite a plot making very little sense, using very convenient, lazy plot devices to move the story on and a FL that is seemingly the Jason Statham of KDramas among other glaring issues.
The FL is very annoying though as everything is done with a silly look or smirk. Not endearing at all. This spin off has strayed far from the original too with many plot holes.
I'm missing the cuteness of the original :( When they did their cameo, I was so uplifted! I hope it improves or might be dropping soon...
