The "bromance" you're talking about isn't a healthy male friendship, it's a direct result of censorship. An adaptation deliberately removing or downplaying a gay relationship in favor of "friendship" is a practice called queer-baiting

"Bromance" in general is a cheap cop-out that reinforces toxic masculinity by implying that emotional intimacy between men can only be expressed through "friendships"

Producer-nims didn't "save" you from "pedo" story, Deuk Pal/Yi Heon went on "dates" with teen girls in the drama (it's implied)

They shouldn't have been sleepwalking through the selection process. They were the ones who picked a "pedo" story, read it, and decided it was a good idea to adapt it. Don't put producer-nims on a pedestal, they're no saint

Oh, and, can you tell the difference between a high schooler and a pre-pubescent child? "Pedophilia" is adults having inappropriate relationships with pre-pubescent children. Se Kyung isn't a pre-pubescent child. Unless you’re working with an alternative dictionary, there was no "pedophilia" in the novel

Exactly, the producers weren't concerned about the age gap, but rather with the idea of a gay relationship. If they were concerned about the age gap, they wouldn't have allowed a 47-year-old's soul in a teen body to go on "dates" with teen girls. It'd have been seen as equally creepy and inappropriate

The change in genre from BL to bromance isn't insignificant, it erases representation of a community that's underrepresented and discriminated against

Adapting a novel with a BL theme into a non-BL drama is a significant change, and the people who looked forward to seeing the novel adapted faithfully have the right to be upset about it

The issue isn't people preferring to watch non-gay dramas, it's people trying to censor gay works because they don't want to see gay romance
