Exactly!! People act like she’s being unreasonable, but she’s literally trying to survive a man who’s done…
Bar has been on the floor for a while to be honest. Many are not even aware that they have been brainwashed by media mainly controlled by men to pit women against women, because let's face it, using women to criticise women is the best way to hold women down the sneaky way, whilst uplifting men blindly.

If we flipped it around, FL chasing down ML to kill him off at every turn, I am convinced a portion of forum users will be out in force to slam her. He has cold ambition whilst she is pure evil, annoying and basic.

Please why would she want to understand what truly happened? You said it yourself, he has tried to kill her so…
Issue with your comment is you are not watching a drama independently but admitting your personal biases that doesn' t allow you to open your mind to the drama as a whole. Has it crossed your mind that she's grown cynical due to the years of knock backs? Being jealous or even resentful of other actors' fame based on (in her mind) fandom rather than acting recognition is not henuous in anyway. I think some have grown so influenced by the whiter than white persona of leads, they are starting to expect all leads need to start and think this way. They don't always.

You will be talking to a brick wall. Some cannot admit it, they bring their biases to dramas. Nothing special. The hormones are doing the talking. FLs are often invisible and dare I say, an irritant. But, they'll never admit it.

This user regularly uses the words like stupid, fatso and give some characters derogatory "nicknames" regularly no doubt because she thinks it's witty. She doesn't give her comments a second thought. Some people are just like that. Unaware of their approach to making offensive comments.

It's only 1/4 of the way in so a bit early to know or judge. I am so pleased with original scripts. It usually cuts all the book fans and gate-keepers from trying to hate and judge too easily. Seasoned watchers are just left saying "getting the job done properly" as if the script is for them to dictate how the format should go.

Idol style dramas tends to need growth and usually it's from one extreme to another. No doubt the FL will have her realisation. What is so interesting is, a portion of viewers ignore the fact that ML has tried to kill her on numerous occasions and yet her need to get him back is not OK. You do wonder, if the ML actor had been played by an unknown or an older and uglier actor, would we see these same types of unbalanced comments.

It’s actually pretty simple. The emperor is an asshole, her fiancé is power hungry, and gunning for the throne…
Common comments on those that like to judge women more harshly than men characters. It's clearly someone that is more biased towards men. You need to see Filter drama comments. Even worse.

Title A Dream within a Dream Spoiler
I am a little baffled as to why people are annoyed with the FL now because she isn't more understanding toward…
It happens all the time like clock-work.

I think some viewers are getting more righteous than the lead characters of yesteryear. Reality is, most aren't anything near what they claim to be. Also, their opinions come as an audience with information handed on the plate from the director so they end up screaming at their monitors on who's good or who's bad. They do not separate that to an individual's character within the plot.

In Filter, there was a similar situation where a core portion could not separate their own morals to the FL's morals based on her background and upbringing. It clouds their judgment of the FL and end up feeling sorry for he ML instead.

Your opinion from the audiences' point of view. I'm only on episode 5-6 but can already see it's a light parody on the industry and not at all going to be following logic nor show an upright female lead that is righteous and understanding. She plays someone that's beaten down by the industry and has grown cynical already. She thinks she's smarter than she really is. I think that's more realistic than the many FL's that have massive plot armour. FL's can be clueless and unbright.

There seems to be a fashion for the misunderstood ML that keeps getting hurt but at the same time like a moth to a flame. This is also a trope that drama makers use time and time again because it's a ratings winner, and in this drama, it's poking fun of that trope. For me, it's funny to see him injured each time. I'm sure this arc will move onto something else. For me, it's not a drama to be taken too seriously.

Title The Litchi Road Spoiler
I get your point. Have you watched it all to the end yet? Only then will it sink in with all the points you make.
Glad to see you made it to the end. Yes, he got them back good and proper. Plus the story is told like folklore so more a cautionary tale about those that do good and those that are corrupt. So in essence there may never have been someone that was so naive in the first place. It's written for the purpose of a core message.

The last time I felt so frustrated watching corruption and bullying on this scale was The Long Season. It can be quite tiring to watch. It was the comedic moments that got me through.

She is 21 years old in real life. Too young to be his partner.
I get your point and we'll just have to wait and see in the final cut. We're told no romance but in cases like these, to create tension, they tend to make the younger actor idealistic and often pining for the older actor to make it more palatable and less predatory looking.

BTW, age is sometimes ignored and casting is done on visuals. XZ looks quite young and some actresses look more mature. Example in Last Goodbye Mama, ML (Yin Fang) was was 33 years old and Wang Churan at the time was just 21 years old. But both were partners in the drama. Because she looks mature, in Have a Crush on You, she was 24 years old and Peng Guan Ying was 37 years old!

Douban scores are getting more and more emotional and biased these days, many give low score simply bc Li Shande…
I'm surprised by the score. I absolutely loved The Long River for it's subtle comedy and I'm convinced they must have seen actor Gong Lei's performance there and type-casted him here. After watching this drama, I would say, the comedy here is even better. I guess, adaptations will always have issues for die-hard book fans.

Yes, a bunch of literal snakes owned by Chi Cheng are a pretty important plot point to the series so far.
OK, many thanks for getting back on that.

On the tag, I see "snake". Does anyone know what that means? Are there snakes in this drama or it has another meaning?

Please do not try to make up rules like your one is gospel. There is no such rule on MDL saying you cannot discuss…
I'm not making anything complicated. It's yourself making it complicated. Also, if you've read the comments, it's just healthy discussions that sometimes involves mention of actors that have done well or not done well in other dramas. I don't see that as promotion of other dramas.

Trying to tell others not to do that is wrong. The point of discussions on a drama forum is to discuss actors/actress' works and suitability for their role here. Someone mentioning a similarity to another drama is not promotion.

Being defensive all the time is actually more harmful than helpful. I hope everyone can just chill a bit and let conversations move along naturally. It's not a page to fakely act on-code for one fandom. This drama is part of a cast, so more openness is needed to accommodate others that come for other actors and production.

i hope we can maintain a healthy comment section here rather than fighting each other over irrelevant things honestly...anyways…
It's all healthy in general from what I see. Don't let 1 or 2 miserable self appointed gate-keepers put you off, although they may blow a gasket since you mentioned LOZH and that's not permitted here apparently.

If you've never watched a republican drama, then it's good to see the ML has brought you into watching a broader range of c-dramas. Often republican dramas can be laden with too much politics so I suggest these for first time watchers. One that is with politics, one that is a fun detective one and one that will be set at a similar time to this drama.

Fearless Whispers - no English translation at the moment. Set around 1947-8.
War of Faith, a drama that looks at the financial world at the time of 1940s.
Detective L - Fast paced detective drama inspired by Sherlock Holmes.
