Is this similar to the glory of chen du ling? The glory was one of the best she was strong and ruthless. Hope…
It might be because you have been influenced by modern day standards. In fact it's only the last several centuries do we see that reversed. Nowadays, it is the businesses that rule the system.

He will be in an up coming drama called The Way Home, so maybe in time this will open up more avenues for him.…
Interesting comment about making it in film vs dramas. I never thought about that. I always feel the Chinese film industry is a little cliquey. You always see the same names popping up for awards every year and many are occupied by same names which I will not name here.

I however would have thought the drama industry is even harder to break into because of the sheer volume made each year. But I don't know enough about it, and can only imagine it's hard just seeing how many dramas are made and all trying to catch the eye of the audiences.

But, the good thing is, there is something for everyone I guess. I'm behind with Bloom Life, but enjoying that a lot. And like you, looking forward to seeing Li Landi with Ci Sha.

Thanks for copying an earlier post on the drama. For me Ren Min is not the reason for not continuing. And yes I have made some comments on here about her role being too spoilt and in some instances making it unbelievable that she could behave a certain way in certain scenarios. But, this is about the way it's adapted, and I personally do not feel for her story because of this. But this is not about the actress.

Another problem is I don't really like court intrigue type dramas either but tried because of Ci Sha and Zuo Ye. I must admit I cannot understand why there are so many made every year. But drama makers do, so drama watchers are spoilt for choice.

OK! He's doing a great job here but I admit I have had to put this on drop because the rest of the storylines are not compelling and many of the characters are too stock and FL is not bringing anything new. It just feels like a modern drama with everyone wearing ancient costumes in it. Hope to catch him in The Way Home soon.

Is there bad reviews? Do you mean in general or just this one drama? This actor made his name in film more than dramas, and to be honest, seeing him in dramas, I was surprised but maybe this is the path many eventually move to. As you said, idol actors will be hard pressed to mimic his exposure on the film circuit.

Somehow this drama reminds me of “The Story of MingLan”. Both equally good!
Whilst there are similarities this one is much more lightweight and definitely does not follow even 50% of how women of her age would act. She's managed to shout at her step mum and father in less than a week of returning to her home and wasted no time in getting her revenge. She readily uses her maid to do her dirty deeds, so really it's like watching modern characters playing dress up. Also she has more privileges by being eldest and not a concubine's daughter.

Why doesn't Ci Sha get more main lead roles? He's a really good actor who I'd like to see more of, his eyes are…
He will be in an up coming drama called The Way Home, so maybe in time this will open up more avenues for him. They may be slow for him to get leads in idol style dramas because traditionally they have quite a narrow view of how male stars should look like. He is sometimes mocked for looking too old even despite his young age. And others say he's more a 'Film' star look.

It's good to see him getting this role and hopefully we will see more variety in romance dramas.

I usually don't like court intrigue dramas so missed that one. I only ended up here because of Ci Sha and Zuo Ye, but have to admit, the core storyline doesn't hook me enough. I have put this on hold for now.

There are too many stock characters like step mum and horrible father which to me has been done to death, and so far they are not bringing anything fresh to the table. But happy drama watching for you.😉

Title Bloom Life
This drama is an absolute masterpiece. Watched the first 4 eps and im already completely hooked, its breathtakingly…
If you like this drama, I recommend Born to be Alive. It's a truly beautiful drama more or less based on a true story.

Yes, I mentioned that to someone else too. I have put this drama on hold for now as Bloom Life has come out and I've been waiting for that one. Anyway, happy drama watching. Hope it improves soon! 😉

The same parent that allowed a maid to strangle his child and sent her off to the woods/wild you feel…sorry…
I am not expecting her not to get revenge. It was just the way it was tackled felt quite basic and maybe that is how the novel was I don't know. It is also so early on and I was not expecting her to make such a splash so quickly once she returns to her family home.

It's quite clear that the author wanted us to know she's very smart for her age, but when it came her execution of getting revenge with the maid, it felt a little juvenile and modern. It's like split personalities.

If that is what idol drama means, then I must not be watching many idol dramas. I think Story of Minglan would have been the idol drama of its day. But maybe a much bigger production. Here, the story is far more lightweight and less complex, that's my initial view of this.

Second ML also seems like another stock dandy type suitor and will not match ML in smartness because it's already clear, he has status and will hide behind that when the going gets tough. Anyway, enjoy the drama. It's not bad, but I was expecting the FL to be more reserved even if she has a rebellious streak. But I guess it's not going to be like that.

That's true. I didn't even understand the beginning bits. It was so confusing. I'll try a few more episodes and if she keeps with the same attitude but keeps landing on her feet then I'll have to stop. It's just too much plot armour...😅

The same parent that allowed a maid to strangle his child and sent her off to the woods/wild you feel…sorry…
When I am watching this, I am thinking about The Story of Minglan. When FL of that drama learns of what happened to her own mother, she plots and schemes in a measured way because in the world she lived in, she would never be able to fight it in a simplistic way because of the social norms. What I am saying is, she would not start shouting at her father. Because it's just not the done thing in that time.

You respect the elders no matter what because that is the system. Breaking out of that system would throw the whole drama off. The scenes where the whole family sit in the hall and her standing up and raising her voice at her step mum and then her father is very out of character for the Ming Dynasty. It's OK if she's voicing her opinions with her maid, but this is in front of her parents.

I am not expecting everyone to act in one uniform way, but I am saying her behaviour in this scene doesn't feel right especially when the father doesn't even reprimand her poor attitude for a father of his consistency should. Suddenly he's seen cowering.

Yes, it's seen more often where this type of attitude is normalised. Maybe we're in the minority as I don't see that around me either. You just do not behave that way to ones older than you even how wrong.

Maybe these storylines are written to a niche young audience to liberate those that feel they need to have an outlet to have this release? I'm fine with that, but in this drama, it feels too soon for her to be like this. The only way I see it is, she must have been spoilt a lot by her grandmother to end up like this.

OK, thanks for letting me know about the rebirth and this now taken out. Useful to know. Let's see how she matures here. Hopefully I will put this spoilt feel to the back as it seems like I'm the only one that feel it's weird. Her behaviour seems very smart and a lot older than that of a 15 year old.

Really? "Her character has managed to make me feel sorry for her parents." This could give the impression…
Not at all, of course as a viewer it is made clear he was not a good parent at all. But in the current situation, I think his character is so badly written it's not believable. He's just a character to uplift the FL with his bumbling ways and so not subtle scheming. When the FL runs circles around him, it's cringey watching him squirm and yes, I feel for him because he has to endure this level of poor writing of a stock character.

Thanks for going into detail. I likened that like a debutant thing. But I guess, you can't always compare.. No I didn't watch The Rise of Ning.

Yes, the upstaging was used because it felt like someone had used her to hijack her special event. I guess, I had my biases as I thought the drama would be more like The Story of Minglan where main lead would be put upon, meek and always trodden on. Here, she's the eldest and not a concubine's daughter so she has more privileges here.

Thanks for responding and an interesting comment. I am definitely older than FL but not old enough for grand children. Maybe stamp on seemed like a wrong wording. I meant she doesn't seem to show the understandings of what motivates maids and how it came to be that way.

Also same for how concubines may be trying to better themselves. They also have limited rights so it is natural they will do anything to take out potential opposition. I thought being FL material, she may show a bit more understanding on that.

Yes I saw that but maybe I am a bit old school. I didn't expect the FL to be so hard nut so early on. She's definitely feisty but laced with being a bit spoilt and bratty. Maybe it's me, I do not resonate with this character type because I find it too modern and not at all believable in the way she would have been brought up in the Ming dynasty era. It just feels like a modern day drama with characters playing dress up.
