It’s sad how the actions of one actress trying to do something good has sparked so much hate and political conflict…
Regardless of what they’re trying to say, it’s hard to defend this when they’re posting long tirades which diminish the suffering of people in Ukraine and deny crimes .
Definitely a drama on the sideline for me. It wasn’t bad really or particularly stimulating and the writing was low-key out of sync, but it was decent an okay binge-watch. 7/10.
I ended up dropping this one before the halfway point to be honest. I get the appeal for some but I’m glad someone did point out some weaker sides to the drama and strengths 👍
I don't want to be insensitive or anything but what exactly is the problem with this drama? Haven't we had dramas…
Story wise I completely agree. (It’s artistic licensing. )However although I have no real partiality to the issue, I think a lot of backlash has arisen from the controversy in SK over its depiction of historical events.

I’m sorry to hear that you’ve come across some negative associations with South Korean culture. I’ll be honest in saying I’ve rarely come across it but it doesn’t bring into acknowledgement that prejudice is still sadly prevalent. With shows like ‘ School 2021’ or ‘ Chimera’, I’ll agree that they aren’t as popular as other dramas but I wouldn’t necessarily say it’s a case of " Hollywood" mentality as to why these dramas aren’t as popular as other shows. Netflix has undeniably played a big part in opening up Korean culture to other western countries. I’m not denying that culture clashes don’t exist dependent on where you’re from but we can’t deny there are many other factors which deem a shows intrigue or ability to captivate audiences including casting lineups, advertisement and to some extent how well-received the drama actually is in South-Korea or amongst the drama watching community. Back a few years ago when Netflix was just churning out streamed dramas of old shows a lot of western viewers had to watch through other websites to get their fix on upcoming shows. Dramas like ‘ Sky Castle’ ,‘ Goblin’ or ‘ Moon Embracing The Sun’ remain fairly unique reflections of South Korean culture in versatile forms and have long remained well-received even amongst westerners and " cultural barriers" because they have hook and gravitas. As cruel as it sounds some shows just won’t receive as much attention if there’s more competitors on the market. It doesn’t mean that these shows are terrible and there are plenty examples (such as ‘ Healer’ and ‘ Weightlifting Fairy Kim Bok Joo’) which weren’t hit dramas in South Korea but remained cult-classics are are pretty good in their own right.

Imao it’s just as worst to put Asian shows or productions like this on a pedal stool and claiming that it’s " better because it’s not American and because it is in Korean ". There are undeniably good South Korean shows which far surpass American ones. I’m not American but at the end of the day I have to be honest in saying that there are European and American shows which are just as good as Korean ones. I appreciate that we all feel differently on this but at the end of the day it isn’t right to belittle people who may not feel the same on shows/ productions and for the most part the reviews published so far from what I’ve read ( on both here and other websites) rarely point out cultural xenophobia. ( If anything I think that a lot of reviewers like these shows and are just pointing out constructive-criticism.) Instead why don’t we just agree and be respectful that TV is TV? We have different views but it I’d just as narrow-minded imo that we begin to get touchy just because someone has a different viewpoint.
