her mother's issue is not an Asian cultural thing. her issue is greed, a poverty mindset, and being unhappy with her own choices for her own life. She is trying to correct her faults through her daughter. not in the name of love for sure because she was willing to marry her daughter into a viper's nest for "financial security".
