I didn't know the Chinese term, thanks! ♡♡♡

Now I have to go look up what the Jdrama and Tdrama terms for Older Woman/Younger Man romance are, I'm curious.

I watched 8 episodes of No Secrets before I quit. It was a dumbed down version of the OG and I love the OG so it didn't work for me. I really hated all the role changes too, especially SML as FL's paternalistic mansplaining boss and SFL being insignifcant instead of an important part of the story.

Cdramas in general aren't my thing though. The stories and characters usually aren't as emotionally complex as Kdramas and the dubbed acting really throws me off. I went on a noona romance kick after watching IHYV last year and I think I dropped every noona Cdrama I tried.

Title I Hear Your Voice Spoiler
Spoiler tag your comment please! Those are BIG spoilers. To be fair the reason Min Joon Gook ends up in prison…
That's a lot to unpack so I'm gonna break it down for readability. TLDR - ML, FL and MJG all struggle with how far they'll go for justice or revenge. The point is the leads help each other heal and move on instead turning into MJG.

1. FL knew the picture didn't show anything but claimed it did to get justice and convict MJG. Falsifying evidence is a crime and so is perjury. She does the same thing at MJG's 2nd trial for revenge - still wrong, still a crime and this time he's found innocent because of it.

2. I never said MJG should be free but that he had valid reasons. He couldn't get the police to investigate so he went vigilante - the same thing ML does when the police won't listen to him. ML steals the knife and puts the tracker on MJG before FL's mom is killed, that's pre-meditated murder.

3. MJG kills FL's mom because to him she's responsible for the death of his family. Eye for an eye, tooth for a tooth just like FL's mom says.

4. MJG says in the first episode he killed ML's dad because of a lie he told, he tells FL's mom his family is dead and gives her the "long story" off screen before he kills her. Pretty sure the tragedy was planned from the start especially with how ML dealing with what his dad did ties into SML and her dad issues.

I love this drama but I don't think the story would be as good if MJG was a random psycho killer and the leads were perfect people.

To be fair the reason Min Joon Gook ends up in prison is FL lies and falsifies evidence to convict him with Do Yeon's authoritarian judge dad's help. Otherwise he probably would have avenged his wife and never killed again. He goes insane later because he feels like he deserves justice for what happened to his family but no one was willing to hear his side of the story and help him.

ML would have ended up the same way if he didn't have FL. The diary entry where ML says that without her he would have spent his life suffocating from rage thinking of what happened but it's thanks to her he can breath sums it up perfectly. They save each other, but Min Joon Gook had no one and that's pitiable.

I think the writer was trying to point out if you sympathize with ML, you should sympathize with Min Joon Gook too because they're parallels of each other. Min Joon Gook is the inevitable end ML's story would have gotten if FL wasn't willing to love, support and risk her life for him no matter what.

Stay or suspension of sentence. It's a probation the judge gives you with conditions to prove you're reformed, usually for first time or non-violent offenders. After that the judge decides if the sentence can be cut down or tossed out on the basis of good behavior.

Who is gay and what's their story/endgame? This drama is the first result in "Gay male lead" tag for some reason
There's six leads in this drama, it's Kang Jun Hee that's gay and he's in love with Yoon Yoon Jae. He confesses and gets turned down but is supported by and remains friends with everyone.

This isn't really a BL if that's what you're looking for.

I Hear Your Voice earned Lee Jong Suk a Best Actor Baeksang nomination and he's the youngest actor to win Best Actor at the Grimae Awards for PInocchio - both roles also got him Excellence awards at the Korea Drama Awards. I'd agree his later stuff is a flat but his early career was critically acclaimed and that's where his popularity comes from.

More dramas centered about books please!
Check out Chicago Typewriter and When The Weather is Fine. The former is a fantasy reincarnation romcom where ML is an author publishing a novel that takes place during the Japanese occupation and FL and SML are his assistants, the latter is a small town melodrama where ML runs the local bookstore and hires FL as a part time worker.

Unpopular opinion but none of the leads were great. Lee Jong Suk was okayish but he does his best acting when he has a strong FL and Suzy is... not that. She's decent within her range but she has a limited range and she lacked the nuance for this role.

Meanwhile Lee Sang Yeob and Jung Hae In basically just act "evil" and "nice" sans any attempt at emotional complexity. I'm not sure whether to blame them, the director or bad cast chemistry but despite the high MDL rating no one brought their A game.

What happens to In Ha's inhuman evil b*tch mother at the end. please tell me she either goes to prison or dies.…
Yeah, I was disappointed the writer couldn't come up with anything better than a chaebol corruption plot. The first half of the story with the brother was the best, the rest was mediocre. But I also admit I never warmed up to the romance because of how ML treated FL - really not my thing.

Considering your 9.5/10 you already like it way more than I ever did so YMMV.

This has everything I look for in a noona romance: believable relationship, leads supporting each other and intimacy that isn't forced or tropey. The acting style in Jdramas is different from Kdramas and the cartoonish emoting is weird at first but the story is sweet, funny and mostly realistic.

Content warning: Death of a beloved pet from old age.

That's a hard pass from me. Netflix caving to pressure from the court of public opinion and effectively censoring a drama sets a shitty precedent. It's bad enough the writer and director probably had to butcher their work to maintain their careers in the Kdrama industry but for a international production company to willingly go along with that bullshit? Hell no.

If you're going to play that game, really let the viewers decide. Release an edited and un-edited version and we'll see which one wins out in the end.

In the meantime, protect Yoo Ah In at all cost.

Does anyone have recommendations of good Noona romance K-dramas besides this one? Many thanks in advance.
Another vote for I Hear Your Voice. It's a top noona romance for a reason and it got four Baeksang nominations including Best Director and Best Drama. Your watchlist has much older dramas and movies rated 10/10 so I'm not sure what you're worried about? It's definitely not more dated than Boys Over Flowers.

If It has to be newer try Encounter. I thought the story and characters were trite, but it's got low key melo vibes with family disapproval and quality cinematography.

r/Kdrama on Reddit has weekly episode discussions and a Discord. MDL isn't built for that and the moderation here is terrible, it would be a total bloodbath.

His first love showed back up but right now it looks like he wants to out SML because of what happened to their relationship, not get back together with him.

is this still Recommended after 10 years?
If you want to know what people currently watching a drama are rating it hover over or tap the rating icon. It'll break the ratings down into Current, Completed, Dropped and Verified. Healer's current rating is 7.86/10.

Personally it was way too cheesy for me, has a knock-off Marvel side series vibe.

I don't like student-teacher relationships, is that the main relationship?
It's SML (teacher) in the love triangle and FL (student). So not the end game but yes it's one of the main relationships.

Exactly my thought, still I continued then after 17 it's fuking amazing ML improved a lot and their scenes honestly…
If I have to wait over 2/3s of a drama for a story to get good then it's not a good drama. And from the reviews it looks like the ending is a mess too, so it's more like 3/4s of sub-par drama for 1/4 of "good" romance.

Not worth it for me! I look for a good story with a good romance, not one or the other. Not even the best skinship will save a bad script.

I’m at ep 7 and as a lawyer, the FL is literally the worst ever. The way she defended those twins was extremely…
That case FL defended Twin 1 and SML defended Twin 2.

FL has a strong sense of justice and she knows the twins are murderers, so how do you justify letting a murderer go? She can't. It's personal vs professional ethics and FL chooses personal. Bad lawyer but good person - she's morally right and legally wrong.

SML suspects the twins are guilty but he ignores it. Even when he finds out about FLs/SFLs plan he doesn't do anything. So while he may be legally right he's morally wrong and didn't act in his client's best interest either which would be to plea guilty.

They both get told off by Attorney Shin and they both deserved it. FL admits that she doesn't regret it but she isn't proud of it either which is why she asks ML to tell her she did the right thing 10 times, it's important to her and she's NOT sure it was right.

I thought the twin's case was interesting because it shows a repeat theme from different POVs: sometimes there is no clear "right" choice, you just have to do what you think is right and accept the consequences.
