Yes, she does have a secret identity and unfortunately, will cause a short separation between them.
Well if you really wanna know, Xie Zheng found out that Changyu's family might've played a role in his father's death so he broke up with her, but their separation is very short because he can't bear to stay away from her, he physically and mentally tortures himself during their break up. Eventually he goes to find her and they reconcile.
She won't find out his real identity until they reunite in the army
So far it looks like they get together much earlier in the drama whereas in the novel they don't get together until reuniting so maybe there won't be an actual "rejection", we'll just have to wait and see lol
One thing that annoys me with Netflix subs is that they fail to use appropriate honorifics. For example: Changning calls Changyu "older sister" in Chinese but the subs uses Changyu's name so it sounds like Changning is just calling her sister by name. Another one is Changning calls Xie Zheng "brother in law" (so cute when she calls him that) but the subs says "Sir". For the non-Chinese speakers, this takes away the familiarity of their relationships π€. I imagine the subs on Iqiyi and Tencent are more accurate.

Xie Zheng will eventually leave the village after confessing to Changyu and being rejected by her. She thought he was recruited as a soldier and various things happened to her village after so she decides to go find him, they reunite at the infantry and found out that he is not a low status solider but a General and Marquis of Wu'an
She is very endearing , she is a badass without being too perfect and mean; and she is innocent without being…
Well said. When it comes to Cdrama we often get a FL that is one of the two extreme, either the annoyingly cute and dimwitted FL or the overly serious, "smart" FL, and TXW has somehow broke the mold and struck the perfect balance as Changyu.
Have to give the opening and closing sequence a shot out. Love the opening with all the symbolism of the leads and the ending's beautiful painting depicting the various stages of their relationship: from humble village life, to military glory, and happy couple in nobility attire
I think this is absolutely the very first costume cdrama I've ever watched where they DO NOT INSTA-HEAL. It's…
Yess love this detail, but I always think they have to keep him injured so he has a reason to stay at the village longer, it would be weird if he was fully healed but chose not leave hahah.. I'm not complaining though, gives Changyu more excuses to take his shirt off π€£π€£
Does anybody know if the pigs presented in the drama are real or CGI? I love the visuals and story otherwise...…
There is a disclaimer after the ending credits claiming that no animals were harmed while filming, I don't know how truthful that statement is so its open to interpretation, but its obvious in some of the scenes that the animals are CGI
After a struggling work day trying to get this drama out of my head, I was finally able to sit down and binge all 5 episodes and gosh there is sooo much to unpack and in a GOOD way!!
I'm starting to think this director is a magician in the art of filming, the cinematography is just absolutely stunning, every scene is so captivating, and every panel makes me feel like I'm part of their world.
The leads, ZLH and TXW, I don't even know where to start with these two. I knew they would deliver but OMG THEIR CHEMISTRY IS JAW DROPPING, TOP TIER LEVEL β€οΈβ€οΈβ€οΈπ₯π₯π₯Saying these two can act with their eyes is an understatement, everytime they stare at each other, you can literally feel their emotions, the tension, the longing for each other, and we're not even in the KISSING era yet!! πππ
The first 5 episodes had me laughing nonstop with TXW's comedy, our girl really knows how to make comedy acting effortless. On top of this, we get the sweetie pie Changning, these two sisters are so lovable, adore their sisterly interactions
I was very curious with the pacing of this cause the village life takes up a big chunk of the novel, I didn't know what to expect and how they would flush it out but god, the pacing is just on point. The story is progressing so well, everything makes sense and the editing is π

Literally cannot wait for more episodes π
