I think the focus of this wasn't on the romance of the leads as much as making it feel more like a soft take on real relationships. The ending is even pretty open about it being on life, there's a second season coming. Try to remember it was filmed during COVID times, you can tell by the audio and how they stand sometimes. (A lot of the drama's that had proper COVID filming are like this and have a similar feel even if it's BL or not)
