And this rewatch made me realize how much more evil is the Crown Prince lol. I totally forgotten how far and deep is his planning and he did it to the people who is the nicest to him which is his only friend at the Palace, the Emperor and his Uncle who he knew wouldn't revolt. I also forgotten that he also has been selected as the Emperor after the new child Emperor died, but he just has to kill his Uncle for petty jealousy instead of just being happy getting the Emperor position and marry the love of his life. So, yeah, he isnt really psychotic throughout the drama but the things that he did AT THE END makes him the most psychotic 2ML in my history of watching Cdramas. His decision drove everyone mad even himself. That one decision lead to many catastrophic outcome to literally everyone, truly amazing.
Rewatch this recently and It was even sadder than what I remember it to be. I cried really really early like as early as episode 3? Since I just realized that all she ever did since the beginning is waiting for him. T____T
I ended up increase my ratings since I just realized how amazing is the directing and cinematography of this drama. It certainly one of the most beautiful Cdramas I have ever watched aside from the amazing script and acting. Both Allen Ren and Bai Lu is phenomenal in this roles. Still their best role to date in my opinion. I cried a river for them.
The rating is so low for a big budget drama with well known casts. Even Strong Girl Namsoon is triple Arthdal…
The first season also has dismay ratings like this. I think part of the reason why SJK is not returning.
I think audiences dislike heavy dramas like this. I personally think if Queen Seonduk is made again in this era (with the same powerful casts and quality), it will not have high ratings like in the past as well.
This is pretty much very concerning for the industry since at least at China, those good written dramas are highly valued there and get the viewers (ie The Knockout & The Long Season are the IT dramas this year). But Kdramas is the opposite.
I think Koreans didn't understand the complex storytelling. Queen Seon Deok and Tree with Deep Roots are quite…
I think it really shows how most audiences prefers fluff dramas instead of serious ones like this. If this keeps going, complex good dramas will be produced less and less each year, not that it hasn't already.
I wonder why the drama is not popular. It is written by 2 of Korea's best writers. Their dramas always have high ratings; from Jewel in the Palace to Queen Seon Deok to Tree With Deep Roots. I'm just so sad for the team.
