I'd personally recommend to beginers some old kdramas. If they start watching from the newest series they won't find older ones interesting. Older ones have that magic which made lots of people into kdrama fans.

Mish I think same as you, Reply 1988 is so good drama definietly my favourite of 2016, but why is jealousy incarnate so underrated? :
