Ok, kids. We may have a lead. A few days ago, one of the main actors (Sakulsong Norrapat) posted a picture on his Instagram (narapat33) advertising the DVD (w/ ENG SUBS). Unfortunately, he didn't post a link indicating where exactly it can be ordered from. Maybe this means some people who *do* know where it can be ordered from will get around to uploading it sooner so we can all enjoy? Let's hope so!
I heard there's an incomplete sub version. I'll take that over nothing. I've been waiting forever…
Will do! I feel like every one is on their toes about this one. I've been waiting/searching for over half a year now. I have a Burmese friend who speaks understands Thai, so I'm gonna see if I can get him to help me find it (english subs or not...we can work on those later). hahaha
Firstly, I'd like to point out how interesting it is that people keep speculating about Hong Lim's orientation. His sexual orientation alone isn't really indicated in the film to have any true baring on his actions and emotions toward the king or the queen.
Anyhoo...
I empathise most with the king, honestly. He never tried to hide, nor was he truly ashamed of the fact that he was gay to his wife. He truly wanted her to be happy as indicated in part 1 when he tells her to go back to Yuan and he'll accept the Crown Prince that would be assigned to him. He was willing to let her go and his entire kingdom go because he accepted his reality 1) as a gay man and 2) as a lover true to his heart.
It was ill-fated for him to suggest his best friend and lover to sleep with his queen, but he did it out of the acceptance of his reality. He literally couldn't get it up for a girl. The only other option he had was have some other random dude come in and do it and then kill him afterward to keep the secret, but he hadn't reached his state of cruelty that early on in the film yet.
His personality is the most endearing in many ways, but Hong Lim is the one who truly lets me down in this movie. First of all, he did love the king on several levels, period. Secondly, he'd been a pupil, friend and sexual lover of the king for several years and was the only person the king truly trusted. Fine, he caught feelings after having sex for the first time with someone other than the king, but he should have been honest and brave enough to tell the king that he was feeling awkwardly and emotionally attached to the queen after having sex with her. I don't feel like it's THAT hard to open up about that to someone you've known all your life who asked you to have sex with *his* wife in the first place. I don't believe what Hong Lim and the queen had was love, not nearly to the level of Hong Lim and the king. Especially considering the queen despised Hong Lim up until after they'd had sex for the first time. It was deep bond no doubt, but it was purely circumstantial and I believe they would have gotten over each other if Hong Lim had been up front to the king about his feelings (but then we wouldn't have a movie, would we?).
Part of me wants to sympathise with Hong Lim for being caught between a rock and a hard place emotionally, but another part of me completely rejects that because of how brazen he becomes with every single action he does after having had sex with the queen.
ALL that said, this movie was brilliant and I loved that it put me through all the emotions and gave me so many sentimental juxtapositions to consider. I'll definitely be watching this again.
I was confused for about the first 15 minutes of the movie. After that, it becomes obvious that the connection between the scenes (the few there are) aren't nearly as important as what the characters experience within the scenes individually. If you don't try to make sense of the movie on the whole, the cooky people and very familiar every-day themes make watching rather enjoyable.
As someone who speaks four languages (English, Spanish, Chinese and Hindi), I REALLY appreciated the scene with the couple conversing then arguing in English, Chinese, Spanish and Korean all within the span of about three minutes. ^_^ You can tell by the look on the cashier's face that he notices that their speaking other languages besides Korean and English, but the movie itself doesn't highlight it further.
One of the leads Ben Wu (who's character Tian Qi has my name lol...the cast list has the pinyin spelling wrong) is also a good singer ^_^ https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5wRgdMSqsO8
I still have two movies to go, but this was my favourite so far. Takumi's character just wins me over so hard for some reason. I really feel for the little brat. lol
I don't how seriously the manga takes itself, but this movie is certainly to be taken lightly and that's OK. It's cartoonish and silly. I don't mind that every once in a while. Also, Yoshizaku Kotani is adorable, so there's that. Again, this movie should not be taken that seriously.
I really really liked the movie. The story was simple, sweet and realistic (as realistic a movie based on a manga…
"The story was simple, sweet and realistic (as realistic a movie based on a manga can be at least). Usually i stay away from japanese film and dramas, i can't stand the overacting and the bizarre situations that usually characterize most of them, or at least the majority of what i have seen. I'm happy to say that that's not the case in this particular movie. The acting is natural, there are no exaggerations."
Was basically gonna comment this verbatim. lol You beat me to it.
I don't know why everyone's going on about the ending so much. lol This was an amazing movie. Definitely one of my favourites. It's dark, but funny and a good mix of characters with an intense relationship and a good storyline.
I really liked this movie. All the actors did a great job and it doesn't feel like the story moves to fast or slow. I also really enjoyed the metaphor at the end.
