i haven't read the manhua but based on what i have read from people who have, it doesn't really follow that closely to the manhua so you should be able to follow this drama just as a standalone product.

she broke up with him bc her sister admitted to him that she has a crush on him. so i guess she didn't want her sis to feel unhappy? so she would rather break up up with him... but that results in everyone being unhappy..and then during a time that was recent to after they broke up,he tried to make her jealous by kissing her then friend (the evil girl) and wen nuan ended up being so sad about that that her dad rushed home from a business trip or something (with his father) and they both died in an airplane crash. the sister felt it was all her fault so she tried a suicide attempt and wen nuan was the one to find her so she developed ptsd/selective amnesia to the event which led her to move to england for treatment
