Most people who don't do manual labor don't think about essentials. After a week or two, a new laborer would think of ways to make his job easier or stuff that would help take away the pain/friction. I've seen new guys working outside going without gloves and wearing shorts and singlets for a week and then one day, voila! Dressed in long sleeves and protective clothing all of a sudden. Hao Ming just didn't know; the other guy knew better LOL.
