In the novel, the scum ML made Mei Lin marry his eunuch. Happy now? LOL
Because novel ML was a scumbag and you should NEVER ask about the novel again. This drama only took the shell of the novel and it's entirely a different story--the characters are more relatable, the love is actually not toxic like in the novel, and the ML has a heart.
Omg, if it's like that I am pretty sure I am gonna hate him more than the evil CP
It's not that he is evil. He had this personality where he thought everyone he cared about needed his protection, With Mei Lin, it had sort of become an obsession because she "took care of him." I think power would corrupt him as he became more immersed in the politics.
It's kind of tragic, actually, because all he really wanted was carve wood and make pretty things. And Su Muo protected him from the ugliness of life's reality as a Hostage Prince. Now that he understood that being nice wasn't all that rewarding, well...here we are, LOL.
I thought so too. That look suits him. Now, go, evil YQ!
At least Zheng YeCheng can fight. Good Lord, can that man do some graceful moves. XiyanGreenTeaPrince is okay. It's established so far that he is a master strategist but his strategy for years appeared to be protecting his Go pieces:
1) He became Hostage Prince for peace. Over there, he played Go with the Emperor and kept playing well but always losing. Through the years, he kept his moves more complicated to engage the Emperor. 2) He chose to be Hostage Prince to let his sister grow up before she was sent as peacemaking Concubine. He probably weighed in the pros and cons of his doing so. 3) To protect people he loved, he needed to be go back to Xiyan and be King there. So he finally revealed himself and beat the Emperor at Go. 4) He had shown how far he would go to "protect" Mei Lin from MRXH and to get her for himself (which he had delusions that his feelings were reciprocated) 5) Now, what would be his next step as King of Xiyan to protect his Go pieces? We shall see :).
genuine question for people who say drama MJH "isn't evil enough"— in what way would he be villainous enough…
I suppose (guessing here) they want him to threaten her more and be less sweet. Maybe some more hot kisses ala the pool instead of being shy. Maybe they want him to be carried around more because he was more arrogant that way. I don't think, as a writer, that "act" is sustainable once they decided he wasn't a Black Flag, LOL. Maybe the kisses. I do like that hot kiss, LOL.
If it were left to me as a writer, I would have made the recovery phase after her torture and whipping one episode longer, I did not understand the part where the Xiyan Prince told Su Muo to find a sunny room for her. HE did not carry Mei Lin off, so why would he say that? And why would he have access to her room to visit her? It didn't make sense because MRJH carried her off, declaring her to be his. She SHOULD have been in HIS palace, out of Xiyan Prince's domain, and she should have been more sickly and hating that fact. I mean she still had the poison and had been tortured for days (?) at that point. And then whipped.
That ONE episode could have been a bridge in which MRJH could change from being always that arrogant/seemingly cruel to more human because he took care of Mei Lin, but then also made the usual crazy shenanigan of, well, "she's mine, so she stays with me, even though she tried to kill me."
Without these missing connections, we just suddenly get her in her room, with the Xiyan Prince going about trying to "save" Mei Lin from MRJH...why? She's in her sunny room, not guarded, not taken...so it was weird for me.
LOL it's just me, overthinking the plot. But hey, we don't have 40 episodes! They had a few episodes to play with, dammit!

I do think he is the ultimate Big Bad at this point. CP gonna die when MRJH comes back and then there will be war between Xiyan and the kingdom for Mei Lin! #justguessing
I don't think so she will end up marrying the Crown Prince. As you said, it's just too terrible an idea, and too…
There is a few moments in the trailer where she was hot-kissing the CP and then there is the new poster of her in a traditional female dress-up with CP's hand on her shoulder and the shadows behind them suggesting they are together/married.
Ku=cry
