lol it’s pretty lame. It’s called great journey of teenagers. But it’s pretty good once you get used to Chinese anime. Most of the soundtrack are the same and wuxin has the same voice actor 😂

Does anyone who has read the novels know who is li xuan the person who has passed down the words “to follow your heart/belief”? Like does anyone know li Xuan’s background? Is this person the poet diety who was mentioned in the drama?

I only enjoyed li changsheng/nangong chunshui’s part and sikong changfeng’s part. It’s a pity that every time sikong changfeng was going to have a big moment they cut it short. They also completely cut out the arc of the 4 tianji guardians/fight for the throne between the princes. Did that part not happen in the novels? I liked the 4 guardians (sikong changfeng, tang lian yue, li xinyue, and ji ruofeng).

I’m stuck on ep 32 and found it hard to continue knowing nangong chunshui exited the show.

I really wished I could have enjoyed this show as much as I did with blood of youth drama, the great journey of teenagers, the young brewmasters adventures, the dark river, and junyouyun/word of honor anime. These are all drama and anime adaptions of zhou munan’s books. But this live adaption of the young brewmaster had way too many inexperienced young actors/actress whether it’s supporting characters or main cast. It was way too distracting for me the way they act. I’m not talking about the actors who portrayed li changsheng/nangong chunshui, sikong changfeng, xiao ruofeng, lei mengsha, li xinyue, the baili family (excluding neo). And the fight scene choreography was awful compared to blood of youth. Blood of youth had a good balance between action and cgi where cgi adds to the momentum of the fights. They also used real explosions that were used in old wuxia dramas which was nice. But the action here is a real let down. A lot more talking and cgi then action fights/hand to hand/close combat. I have no idea if the fault lies in the director. And that’s my next issue why did they changed director for this show? Yin Tao was the director of blood of youth why didn’t they stick to that director. Yin Tao directed a lot of amazing drama. Thank god he’s directing dark river. Albeit I also don’t like the cast of dark river but will watch it because I love the universe that zhou munan created thru his novels.

Yes I totally agree with you. I knew she must be older than the ml actor because she’s been around longer. But I don’t see the 12 years age gap at all in the drama. Maybe a few years but just not a whole zodiac cycle

Honestly I interpreted it as happy ending too. It didn’t look open ending or bad ending to me. But I have came across a lot of voices saying other wise. Just because in the ending scene, they’re dressed in red and it looks dream-like it’s a dream and not reality?! There was a scene replayed many times with shen yurong and Xue fangfei one dressed in white and the other in red where one danced and one played the flute and they even kissed. That also looked “dreamlike” but it’s not a dream because both xuefangei and shen yurong were able to recall that moment in 2 different occasion in the drama. I was confused over those bad ending/open ending interpretations too. What they interpreted as “fantasy like/dreamlike” is really just the aesthetics of the drama/production team. Deep red/fog/ wind/and windblown flowers were in many scenes of the drama. Those elements might give it a “fantasy like” feel but I also thought it’s just the aesthetics of the drama. For me there’s one strong symbol that points to the fact the xiao hang survived and it’s the jade pendant. It’s a cat jade pendant. The ending gave a shot at the jade pendant tied to the person on the horse. If you go back to the scene where her father gave her the jade pendant he said something that the jade pendant carries a blessing that protects its owner. And cats are commonly interpreted as having nine lives symbolizing resilience against death.

But I also agree having both wenji and luji die was so unnecessary. But for those who missed out on the reason why the drama had to kill off tong er it’s because the actual actress playing the character need to go to school.

Hi, I’m pretty sure it’s only a one time payment for TVOD. It’s $2.99 and I didn't need to pay again. I paid Friday night and all the tvod unlocks at 12 am for me. And if you get YOUKU vip annual non-renewal right now or during Chinese new year in Feb it’s always 50% off which brings it down to $35 and I think that’s cheaper than Tencent and iqiyi.

Sigh… I might be the only one who want to watch the 2nd and 3rd fox matchmakers rather than the 1st part because there’s actors/actress I looking forward to watching in the latter two ( Liu shi shi, chengyi, ding yuxi, peng xiaoran, li yitong, do like leon zhang too, I don’t know if I miss anyone). Yang mi is fine her acting is really good, but the role fits her too well that I don’t know if I will see any surprises. But nothing the less Yang mi is a good actress she should be able to pull it off. I’m a little worried about gong jun I thought his acting was really good in word of honor and I have tried his other dramas. I’m not really impressed with his acting… maybe he’s good at certain roles and isn’t that versatile… I don’t know. But since the 1st fox matchmaker is more or less the main story I’ll probably watch it so I can see how all three ties together. I like interlinking works, usually complex and interesting.

Wish to see his dramas released soon. I really enjoy watching his performances. A really amazing actor of his generation. In terms of raw natural talent and excellent facial expression, he must be the best out of his peers. I got to know him from white cat legend and I was completely impressed by his expressions in episode 2. A example: The way he turned his head around and looked at Chen shi with his bulging big eyes, which for some reason recalls the eyes of the white cat from ep 1 which is in fact him. The type of expression he’s capable of making is what I would expect a more senior actor could do. And for someone so young to be able to pull them off, I was very impressed. From white cat legend I tried to watch his past dramas. I haven’t watch his most popular work romance of tiger and rose and moonlight. Watched his less popular dramas and shows and I found him to be an amazing person too. Strategic (problem solver), has an excellent memory, well verse in Chinese poetry (I wonder why?), and somewhat creative in terms of imagination and directing/video editing. Hope to see more of him soon in his upcoming dramas! Would like another season of chi huo da ren/da ka ba!

The drama is really good but I think it’s really good at what it set out to do. I don’t think it’s a traditional Chinese drama in a way. At least for me from the start it felt like I was watching a live action of a shounen manga/anime. From episode 1 the way the setting was established and characters were introduced it had a anime/manga quality about it. So from the get go I had to re-adjust my watching standards and enjoy it the way it was intended . I’m not watching a drama but a live action shounen anime like Naruto. It kinda brings be back to when I was a kid and I enjoyed the shounen genre of anime. I liked it and enjoyed it a lot. I think the music really matches the drama. Loved the opening and the ending. I played the ending song on repeat when I get out of work. It’s fun and it really brings me back to when I was a kid when I had a lot energy and childlike optimism (esp towards friendship). It’s definitely really good but for those who didn’t grew up watching anime they might have a hard time accepting this type of genre. It might seem like there’s a lot of instances of childishness, stupidity, goofiness and it’s not for them. I think people should give it a try. I really liked the gang Chen shi, wang qi, and alibaba. lol 😂 I laughed so hard when alibaba said his name was alibaba. I wasn’t expecting it at all. For those who reads reviews before they watch they’re going to miss out on that part of the comedy. I enjoyed it a lot and I hope others do too. It’s my first time watching ding yuxi. From the moment I laid eyes on his expressive big eyes I feel like he’s a different league of actors. He’s got a lot of potential. I can tell from the way he portrays his characters he’s a serious actor and he loves acting. There’s something really contagious about his performance. Sometimes I think he might be a little exaggerated but most times his expressions are so good and on point. I used to see him as a neo hou-look-a-like. I knew about him because he acted with a lot of other rising stars who I watched before, but I never watched anything that has him in it. So I used to see him as another idol actor, but no I was so wrong he’s got a lot of potential. Performance is embedded in this guys dna. He’s going to be really good when he finally gets a role that establishes him as real actor. For me, he’s like zhang ruo yun, who loves acting/performance and it’s embedded in these type of people’s dna. They type of people who has a lot of raw talent in acting. He should get better roles that hones this guys performance like serious dramas and not idol dramas. I never get bored watching his performance. He’s so interesting to watch. He doesn’t use bland, common, and predictable expressions. He has his own acting style if that makes sense.

Totally agree with you! Draw the line is really good! I wish it was properly subbed. Each individual cases are interesting and realistic like they were based on real incidents. I only found the relationship between the judges a little idealistic and way too friendly.
And yes even though chengyi plays 2ml and the haircut is a little corny. I really like his portrayal of zhou yi an.

I also have a hard time rewatching noble aspirations it’s just too old on multiple levels and very slow…
