what does the spinning wheel with different characters each episode mean? Or is it just a transition
It's the name of the family/faction the scene is about or takes place in. E.g Shang for when they are at the sister's place, Zhi when its the clinic/medicine part of the household, Jue when at Shangjue place etc.

for me, this is the best drama I have ever watched.... because I understand the story, it should be a slow moving…
I agree that this was an excellent idea. As someone who has studied Chinese History and Literature (but by no means an expert), the language, set, mannerisms etc. Are nailed perfectly. The acting as well is absolutely fantastic. I'd definitely say one of the best historical dramas I have seen in a long time. So I definitely agree with you that it can be seen as a masterpiece in that sense.

However, the execution and pacing just left something to be desired for me - personally. I've continued to watch episodes on and off. I just wouldn't recommend this to anyone impatient like me.

Acting, set, cinematography, verbal sparring and political plots etc. excellent but HOLY COW so infuriating to the point of ridiculousness. The perfect example of something that could be solved in one episode by saying one thing but for the sake of drama and producing more episodes - dragging an issue for ages. I'm gonna have to sadly drop this.
