It's so refreshing to see Jeff in a role that is LGBTQ+ rather than BL...The themes of poverty, homophobia and the legalisation of gay marriage in Thailand and inequality are depicted so well with each character having a shortfall- be it Mo's intention to take the land and orchard for herself, Saeng's inability to consider Thongkam's feelings, Jingna's inability to think with his own mind in favour of reaping the rewards of his sister's devious plan and Thongkam's weak-willed nature when it comes to love and the sheer rage that comes out at the end of the film. Acting, casting, cinematography, colour grading and the overall plot are all amazing and thorough from a directorial standpoint...wow.
Kinda confused about the scene where Thongkam ties Mo up and does something after saying that at least his child will own the land and orchard- was he trying to mutilate her?
Yesss, you get it- as soon as I watched the ep. I was wondering why they didn't cast my man in the main thing-…
Yeah, 100%- I'm the type to separate the lives of artists from their work, so I don't really keep up with their off-screen lives either, but from what I've heard here and there GMMTV is far from stranger to these weird-ass scandals. That thing about valuing appearance over talent is particularly true with GMMTV, yes- they're up there, so they know that regardless of what they do now, they have the budget, the money from promotions and additional events and a solid fanbase for their CPs.

This has gotten slightly long-winded but I do want to reinstate that NO company is safe from scandals- that's not at all what I was trying to imply with this rant about GMMTV. GMMTV's just a perfect example of how money and connections can really take you places- I'm not overlooking the 'Love By Chance' cast's scandal under Studio Wabi Sabi, or Be On Cloud's whole thing with Barcode and Fuaiz being just about legal/having huge age gaps with their on-screen partners. This doesn't just happen in Thai media, but when they're the most prominent BL producers in Asia and- arguably- the world, the queer demographic isn't getting a good rep because of such scandals.

Ah, and Pawin Thanik of 'My Gear and Your Gown', 'Star in My Mind' and who was supposed to be Marc's love interest in 'We Are' had an assault scandal. And apparently, Joss follows Andrew Tateπ¬

Haha- I'm completely with you there regarding Thai productions, especially GMMTV (there's a lotta controversial stuff there but that's for another day). I might give the HK version a go, then- definitely not watching the Thai version though. I rate your willingness to even try watching itπ

I have not- I dunno if I want to, if that makes any sense? It's like the apprehension I felt when I heard Cherry Magic was getting a Thai adaptation (and now Ossan's Love has one, too)- I felt like they wouldn't be on par with the originals. I tend not to watch remakes, which- for the most part- has paid off. If the HK version's good, though, then I'll watch.
I already watched this BANGER a while back but I can't help returning to this page once in a while- unfortunately only low-res servers were available when I watched but as an avid Ossan's Love series watcher I took whatever was available- and knowing things have now changed, it's so nice to see that higher quality servers have been uploaded. Feel like I echo a lotta people's sentiments from what I've read in previous posts in that Hasegawa had SO much potential- I guess the reason why I'm sometimes still stuck on it (ever so slightly) is 'cause Ossan's Love was still airing new eps/seasons up until last year, so π
There's a reson this movie went on to become an 8 year long running series with 10 installments. I think the premise…
Nah, for real- I appreciate J-BLs' efficiency to not only explore the common high-school, slice-of-life BLs, but also office-worker romances- so those aged anywhere between 20-40 and even slightly older in other settings. I do hate to be that guy but I don't see many Thai-BLs- which are the most mainstream in Asia for BLs, I'd say- following that route, which is probably why I have so much respect for J-BLs. Not only is the cinematography and acting excellent despite the low budget (for the most part), but man, the storytelling and character arcs- might've blabbered a bit there but you get what I mean π
Not sure whether this has been cleared up for you but because Hasegawa was the original Maki in this series he and Haruta would've been endgame, not Haruta and Chief :) So yeah, you're right- they just didn't get to expand upon that storyline in this short ep.
How did I end up on an Ossan's love spree?? I must say this little special is a gem. Much superior to the series…
Yesss, you get it- as soon as I watched the ep. I was wondering why they didn't cast my man in the main thing- but I'm guessing it may have had something to do with his availability/apprehension at reprising his role π€· Nice to see another watcher with similar views regardless!
For some reason I'd really like a special ep. like with the short ones for Cherry Magic- I dunno, I just think that it'd be really cute π₯Ή Other than that, Miseinen is one of those BLs that really prove that J-Dramas and just J-Art in general are on another level. Minus the live-actions with the cringey wigs, the Japanese really have a way with storytelling that I haven't seen in any other language- and their BLs in particular are what really make me and everyone else satisfied when we say we want to see queer content normalised in mainstream media. And a good storyline wouldn't be good without an equally competent cast of actors, so a huge kudos to them- especially considering their age- I mean, wow.
