I don't know what you've seen in your life. I have my own experience of 20 years of American, European, and, in recent years, Japanese and Korean series—a lot of Korean. I know what good direction is. Good direction isn't filming an action scene with 18 cameras and editing 50 shots for 2 seconds, which has happened continuously in this series. Or doing romantic scenes in slow motion where they freeze and stare into each other's eyes for half an hour. But there are a thousand other examples of bad direction. I didn't give it a bad rating overall; the flaws are the direction and a very simplistic script.
It ended exactly as I predicted in episode 1!! Fun, intriguing story...the cooking scenes are beautiful, of course. The costumes and locations are beautiful. The direction and sometimes the writing are terrible, but it was enjoyable to watch with my wife. What a shock to see what happens in the penultimate episode, though! Unfortunately, the story ends like this, and there won't be room for a season 2, perhaps set in the present day. What a shame.
