Best C-drama EVER!
The writing was impeccable for this drama. It was hard to look away for fear of missing something. Both Jing Boran and Sun Qian's performances were exceptional! I would be remiss if I didn't add... I always skip the intro to any drama I watch, but the OST was fantastic. I especially looked forward to "Her" at the beginning of each episode. This drama sets out to make you feel sorry for the FL and to hate the ML. I loved him, even to the point that I felt sorry for him. They were both products of their upbringing. However, he was thick-skinned, brutally honest, and very brash... far from perfect. Anyone with half a brain could see he was changing and only wanted to protect her. He wasn't the best at communicating his feelings, like most typical masculine men. When he was told he needed to approach differently, he did. He gave more than he received, and he changed for the better. I teared up twice during this drama: once when Sun Yuan Zhu was having a hard time and ultimately took his own life, and the second time when Luke was experiencing heartache during his trip to the aurora. For a man to break down in tears in front of his friends, while talking on the phone when there is no one on the other end of the line, all pretense has been stripped away. All that was left was a man in love with a woman he couldn't hold on to!
She was thin-skinned and dishonest, and her lack of communication skills (for a woman) was pitiful. In fact, she assumed more than she communicated. All of her relationship issues stemmed from her assumptions, deception or outright lies. Not wanting to disclose their relationship, for good reason. However, she didn't know how to create boundaries, especially when it came to men in her life. No man wants to share his woman with other men, but she couldn't get that through her head. Telling her that outright (he tried) was completely offensive because she didn't pick up signals. She wasn't forthcoming, even when it was in her own best interest. She was aggressive when she wanted to be, but timid when she needed to speak up. She sent more mixed signals than a broken traffic light. She took more than she gave... all relationships require compromise and introspection to survive. She could never see what she was doing wrong, which is what set him off every time.
