This is one that you'll want to return to again and again. The evocative storyline leverages family secrets and deep emotional ties to create a twisted reality that the leads can only untangle together. While the plot contains familiar ploys, the minimal development of secondary characters maintains the tension and mystery of the plot, never letting you see the enemy too clearly. Instead, the focus stays on the leads who deeply embrace the light and dark of their pasts and futures. Zhang Ji Jun plays the various personas of the complex ML with captivating skill and emotion. He shifts seamlessly between power and weakness with a teary-eyed look, a subtle change in stance, or a slight change in tone. The FL matches his energy, portraying physical strength and bravery, alongside the vulnerability she has learned to hide in order to survive. Together they have beautiful chemistry as they each learn to rely on the other.
My only critique: These dramas need to stop portraying disability as a weakness and worse than death. Ableism is gross.
