The intention is that the concept of "love" is not limited to only cis/hetero male/female relationships. Any person is capable of love and that is not something you "choose". Someone who is gay has the same opportunity to find love with their same sex, and it is no less valid and real than anyone else's love.

Wow it feels like I wrote this! So yes, same. I'm late to ITSAY because people hyped it up so much, everyone saying how emotional it was & crying all over the place, and I just wasn't in the mood, I guess. It took me quite awhile to finish bc I kept getting bored or distracted. Unfortunately I never really got emotionally invested.

As for my thoughts... very similar to yours. It was fine but I just never connected with the characters. I'm also older, and the teen angst was a LOT, the drama of it all got to be annoying. The OST was ok, but it got repetitive. I thought the kiss was one of the best underwater kisses that I've seen, but that wouldn't have been my choice if that was going to be the only kiss shown. Otherwise, the actors were great and I liked their chemistry. The setting, color tones, and cinematography were all top-notch.

I'll still give IPYTM a chance. Maybe once they're in Uni, they'll get their shit together and learn to communicate!
