While in Japan, he posed in a picture next to a temple. Without him knowing (or so he said), this temple was actually built to honor the japanese army that invaded China. He said he didnt know but he was not forgiven nonetheless (people said that it was even worse that he was this ignorant). The backlash was very harsh, he was boycotted by every business and entertainment industry, all his projets dropped. So yeah probably a mistep, but China tend to erase people who make those kind of mistakes. He's trying to get back in the industry, no idea if chinese people will forgive him
