So far what I don't understand/love are :1..The romance between the main leads" Does the 25 years ' wait because…
Thank you for mentioning #2. I have huge, HUGE problems with this, esp with the male main lead, Lee Min Ho. It got so bad I had to watch Lee Min Ho's other kdramas to ascertain if he is such a bad actor. (I am new to watching kdrama and I am not familiar with the actor) Apparently he is not bad, certainly not mediocre at least, but it boggles the mind why he would act this way in this series, or why the director would let him act in such a way. The expressionlessness was causing a lot of misfire when it comes to delivering humor, suspense, or romance. It also severely affects the chemistry and on screen rapport with other characters, and gets in the way of the overall cohesiveness of the story (hes the main character, for goodness' sakes, of course its going to cause problem with cohesiveness!).
On the other hand, if the director was trying to convey that this King is still unpolished, still somewhat inexperienced and fragile at times, it does show itself poignantly in certain scenes. These type of scenes are the reason I am still somewhat on the fence about the whole emotionless/robotic approach. After much thought, I feel the director is trying to helm the whole acting towards something that will make sense or have more impact later.... but I just wonder, does he really need to sacrifice cohesiveness and clarity just to deliver this impression of the King. I'm no director, but I would think there would be a much better way.
As for what you were liking about the series, I wholly agree that there is actually potential interesting overall story (based on what has been filmed and how they have filmed certain scenes), and esp considering the actual title of the series (he's not eternal in anyway at this point in time,... so there's potential for an interesting plot twist to result in this series title) It is the major reason why I continue to watch the show. I hope I'm right and they pull this off (esp things are starting to pick up now and the plot is starting to move along)
I don't know if I am exaggerating or not , but it seems that lots of you guys don't care much about instrumental…
Thank you for mentioning the music. Adding to that, in many scenes, ambient sounds seem to be missing, esp during discussion between characters. There's a lot of this blank, soundless situations, and this type of soundless situations actually lengthens a scene... if utilized too often, it results slow moving and boring scene, despite its contents. There have been a number of scenes when its supposed to come off humorous/emotional/mysterious, but seemed to have missed its mark.
