What episode are you on? because that's not a little spoiler, it's THE spoiler. I'm reluctant to give it away.…
Ok! Well, back when the father was young, he was wrongly convicted of murder. Being a criminal, and a murderer at that, made life hard - he couldn't get a job, ect.
Then he went overseas with his friend, an accident happened, and his friend died, and during the chaos, their passports were switched. So they were misidentified.
The father's then girlfriend, now the mother, came, believing he was dead, but was surprised to find that it was all a mistake. Instead of correcting it, she suggested they keep up the ruse. Then the father would no longer live as a murderer. And their children wouldn't have a murderer as a father.
So, Joong Hee's father is the real Han Soo, and the father is going along with the ruse out of guilt. And that's why the mother isn't particularly upset about his supposed affair.
It's essentially the reason the father is strange. It's why he doesn't drive, and why everything is under his wife's name. Because he's using a stolen identity. Of course, no one else knows.
I like dark themes, and I don't have a problem with violence, provided there's a legitimate reason for it. But the first episode is a mess - this is the fourth time I've tried to watch this, but I just can't get into it. I just don't understand why it's considered so great.
When was the last time I watched a show all the way through without pausing? Or quitting in a rage? Or looking…
On another note, I'd love to see a story about a cop who was undercover like Shi Hyun, and rejoined the force. An exploration of the cost after the fact and recovery would be fascinating - though it's probably not even possible.
When was the last time I watched a show all the way through without pausing? Or quitting in a rage? Or looking up spoilers? I can't remember. This was amazing. It was brilliantly dramatic, and refreshingly unsentimental. Without forcing you to relate/sympathise, it portrayed every character as dynamic and complex. The story built on itself, and its preexisting logic. Without going in circles, it always moved forwards.
The ending was anticlimactic - but I felt at peace with it. Why the writers chose to go that route, I fully understand, and I am relieved in a way, these characters have suffered so much. I love them - even some of the ones I wanted to personally stab at the beginning, I loved them at the end.
I think this series would of been more sucessful if they just had the ML/FL solving random crimes in their police…
Agreed, it felt so forced by the end. I would've much preferred a SOL type show as well, but K-dramas usually feel the need to go down the overly dramatic sentimental road. It was really over-hyped while it was airing - I think it was "successful" in that lots of people watched it, but that doesn't mean it was great.
Tbh, I don't think it's complete hate. In episode, was it 2? or 3? We see him talking to the portrait of the former queen, in a way that shows that he genuinely cares, somewhat. He's just more biased towards is oldest and illegitimate son.
And he's wary of the crown prince due to his natural charisma(a lot of officials seem to like him) and his uncle's military power. He doesn't know how to treat him, and also wants him to grow up to have the skills he'd need as a ruler.
As for delaying the coronation, well, perhaps it's due to fear? I haven't completely figured that one out, but it's possible he sees the prince's talent and fears a coup'd'tat.
Also, what happened 3 years ago when the former queen passed away? The illegitimate prince had his made up accusation, which would have had no grounds if there wasn't a small element of truth. There may be an old grudge we are unaware of.
I don't think it's hate, though I think it's accurate to state that he's not particularly fond.
On another note. Young prince, denying that he was the prince, is interesting - how he put up the wall, even subconsciously.
I want more Silla dynasty dramas. Most of them are Joseon and I want something different like Baekje or Goryeo.
I agree. Joseon feels like a pretty boring setting now. Not only are the costumes always identical, there's little room for female characters to be any more than wallflowers. Goryeo and Silla are a hundred times more interesting.
Is there romance? I mean, if I'm watching this drama, it's for Lee Dong Wook and I hope he's the main lead?
If you're watching it solely for romance you'll be disappointed, the main focus is hospital politics and tbh, Lee Dong Wook's character's brother steals the show. But there is a small romance between his character and another.
Maybe I should stop procrastinating and watch this. I've been looking for something to watch for a while now, after all. But for some reason, I have this eerie premonition of being let down.
Can't help but disagree. Love 020 was awful; the ML was disturbing and unnatural, the FL was wooden and the side characters, particularly the FL's "best friend" were poorly written with the intelligence of little children.
And WWWSK was just... average.
These are my relaxing dramas: Come and Hug Me Story of Ming Lan Encounter. Just Between Lovers could've been on this list if it didn't get bogged down by the side stories.
Yes, odd choices perhaps, but every time I watched an episode, my breathing relaxed and I felt peaceful. Yes, even Come and Hug Me, serial killers and all - it's on this list because I often rewatch it when I'm feeling stressed and it helps.

It seems this was once on Netflix. It's either no longer there, or not available in my country. Is there anywhere else?
And WWWSK was just... average.
