I don´t really think you can compare Korean Sageuk with Chinese Wuxia. I like historical fiction, but this whole ancient magical martial arts world of most wuxia just isn't my thing. When it comes to straight up historical series of the kind I prefer, I've found k-dramas are usually better. Though there are exceptions, on average, Korean historical dramas tend to have better writing with deeper more sophisticated plots, better acting, better cinematography, and often better overall production values. But if you are more into the fantasy and magic, than c-dramas may be more to your liking.

My favorite k-drama so far in 2024 has been (much to my own surprise) Pyramid Game. But as a low profile TVING show, I´m not surprised it didn't win anything. I do want to watch Boyhood, but can't find it anywhere.

Agree 100%. If they were going to give a best villain award to Marry My Children, it should have been to Song Ha Yoon

I thought both were about equally good, but neither was quite as good as Lovely Runner.

We still have 4 episodes to go in my region and I´m wondering if this show suddenly goes downhill in those final episodes because of the way the ratings dropped so sharply both here on MDL and on IMDb at the end of the season. I've really enjoyed the show so far (I'm up to episode 10) and I'd hate to see it ruined by a poor ending.

I notice a heavy focus on Boy Love series on this list. Nothing wrong with that for those who are interested, but you've left out some pretty good shorter Japanese series in other genres. ¨First Love Hatsukoi¨, ¨Nigeru wa Haji da ga Yaku ni Tatsu¨, and ¨Boku Dake ga Inai Machi¨ just to mention a few I would recommend at least trying. Also, note that several of the shows you do list have additional seasons that make them longer.

The American Ballerina is not a remake of the Korean Ballerina. It's a completely different story. It's also staring Ana de Armas, so I will definitely be giving it a chance.

I enjoyed Season 2 as much as Season 1, though for different reasons. S1 was more tightly focused on the monster story, with an interesting historical context, while Season 2 was more focused on the main characters, providing a needed explanation for their behavior and choices. My only real issue is that S2 feels incomplete, with some story-lines not fully resolved. But this may be fixed if they do film a S3 (as seems to be implied by the post-credits scene at the end).

I think its too unusual a show for everyone to like it. But obviously many people did.

Were the reviews in Korea negative? Because on Rotten Tomatoes the first season got a very good 93% critics score and a high 83% audience score.

I personally thought S1 of this show was at least as good as Itaewon and significantly better than Fight for My Way (where I couldn't stand how PSJ's character was written) or Secretary Kim (which was so full of cheesy tropes that I had trouble finishing it). But that's just me.

It might depend on your region. In my region its currently available on Prime.

The reason why Miss Night and Day is only now trending in Latin America is that Netflix only started showing it in that region last week and they are only up to episode 2.

I'm not usually much into historical fantasy, but I might give this a try as I thought Bona was great in both Pyramid Game and in 2521.

I guess I didn't explain myself very well. I wasn't referring to other streamers but rather that the Netflix and Disney+ content made in Korea still tends to have a lot less sex and nudity than the Netflix and Disney+ content made in the US, Europe, Latin America, etc... If even this minimal amount of sex and nudity is still uncomfortable for some viewers, then I guess the solution to avoid Netflix and Disney+ originals. I personally have really enjoyed some of their Korean originals. Series like Squid Game, Moving, My Name, All of Us Are Dead, Revenant, Extracurricular, and Revenge of Others are all among by Top-30 favorite all time Korean series. One of the strengths of the Korean TV industry is that they cater to a wide variety of genres and viewers. There really is something for everyone.

It's always frustrating in my region because half the time Netflix starts showing series a couple of months after most of the rest of the world. But at least that is better than Disney+, which doesn't bother showing its Korean shows at all in this region.

I don´t know anything about any of those fan groups. I just thought TW was an excellent all around show. As for the cast, all were pretty good, but for me the most impressive performance came from Seorina, who very convincingly pulls off the dual role of both an initially suicidal student and the younger version of her overbearing haughty mother.

Scarlett Heart Ryeo was one of the most difficult shows to find online as its not carried by any of the streamers I usually go to.

I guess it depends on your tolerance level for incidental partial nudity. I find Netflix's Korean originals to be extremely tame compared to their content from almost anywhere else. But they do allow characters to have sex lives, even if they don't really show anything all that revealing.
