An atmospheric, winter drama

The Witch is a slow-paced, romance drama that's quite polarizing. I enjoyed it, but I was often of two minds watching it. At points I struggled to turn off the rational part of my mind, that what's happening on screen (the stalking) could very easily become a nightmare.

The pacing of the drama was the major positive for me. I loved how slow it was. The way every action in the drama takes more time - it made me feel immersed in its world. I loved the realism in the actors' faces. The ML loses himself in his research, he looks obsessed. The FL is a picture of loneliness. The places that we see - apartment buildings, alleyways - feel real.

Watching the ML trying to dodge possible threats in the environment - motorcycles, cars, wonky signs - was actually pretty funny.

But as much as I enjoyed how this drama told its story, there are red flags everywhere. The amount of stalking we see is insane. You change one variable - if the FL feels this isn't consensual, if the ML is a creep/violent - then this story is a nightmare. The FL is just so vulnerable.

I wish she had more agency in the ending. Her feelings should've came first. To be honest I think this is the kind of drama that would have been better without a romantic ending. Have them spend time with each other, and hint at something in the future.
