Cloud seats is another way for platforms to get money out of fans😅 It's a new way of promotion.
Fans or actors or cobrands that support the drama will buy however number of cloud seats they want (with money) then when the drama airs, passerbys can watch a certain duration of the drama (for example 6 mins for cloud seats that actors buy or 30 mins for cloud seats that fans buy) and when they watch the duration that is required, they can grab one of the cloud seats and win free subscriptions to the platform (in this case iqiyi or tencent). So if passerbys watch a few mins of the drama they can win a free subscription and if they like the drama they will continue watching. So cloud seats is a form of promotion for the drama and also helps with the heat index.
Cheng Yi bought 517 seats which is the number of his birthday, May 17th.
Also it is not recommended for ies to try to grab the cloud seats because those are intended to encourage the passerbys into watching the drama not for fans use.
