It's pretty normal in many parts of Asia especially SEA and India. We are taught sequence and series, differential and integral calculus in standard 11th. It all started during colonial period when a well educated man gets preferential treatments. It still continues to date because it give us an advantage over competition in taking admission in top western universities mainly US, Canada, UK and Germany.
