Catches your attention but…
Fateful Love started off with a bang, immediately drawing me in with its exciting premise and captivating storytelling. The drama does an excellent job of keeping the audience engaged, balancing intrigue, romance, and action. The breathtaking natural landscapes added an immersive touch, making the visuals a true delight. Another highlight was the title song—catchy, dynamic, and fitting for the drama’s tone.The fight scenes were another standout, beautifully choreographed and visually stunning. As for the leads, they were both lovely and had good chemistry, though it wasn’t quite perfect. Still, their interactions were enjoyable, and their individual performances were strong. The drama also introduced a range of interesting characters, both main and secondary, making the world feel rich and well-developed.
However, there were some disappointments. One of the biggest missed opportunities was the music. With all the lavish banquets, dancers, and traditional qi instruments featured in the setting, it would have been amazing to hear authentic instrumental performances. Instead, we got the same generic background tracks, which felt repetitive and uninspired.
Then came the last stretch of episodes—where everything took a bizarre turn. The storytelling suddenly lost its grip, repeating scenes to the point of absurdity. The leads kept taking turns lying in bed in a coma, which meant we were left without either the male or female lead for long stretches. Even the secondary characters weren’t spared from this strange pattern. And to top it off, the final episodes became a reunion festival—every other character conveniently found their long-lost mother. It was unintentionally hilarious but also frustrating to watch the plot spiral into chaos.
Despite the downward slope in the last episodes, the overall experience wasn’t bad. The ending was okay—not great, but not a complete disaster either. Fateful Love had a lot going for it, but its final act could have been handled much better. If you can overlook the questionable last few episodes, the drama still offers an engaging story, beautiful cinematography, and some truly memorable moments.

Ashes of Love is a captivating series that masterfully intertwines a compelling narrative with breathtaking visuals and multifaceted characters. The storyline is so engaging that I often found myself binge-watching, unable to pause.The female lead, Jinmi, portrayed by Yang Zi, presents a duality that is both endearing and, at times, exasperating. In the first half of the series, she is charming and witty, delivering clever dialogues that add a delightful touch. However, as the plot progresses, her character becomes more somber and detached, displaying traits that made her a “love to hate” figure for me.
Deng Lun’s portrayal of Xufeng, the main male lead, is consistently enchanting. His character exudes charisma and passion, driven by emotion rather than logic. The chemistry between Xufeng and Jinmi is palpable, with their intimate moments radiating intensity.
Runyu, brought to life by Luo Yunxi, stands out as the most intriguing character. His gentle demeanor introduces a sense of tranquility to the scenes, resonating deeply with the audience. His dialogues are imbued with wisdom and sincerity, often leaving a lasting impression. The injustices he endures evoke empathy, and his eventual actions, though controversial, feel justified. It’s disheartening to see him labeled as the antagonist when his motives stem from a place of pain and retribution.
The supporting cast adds depth to the narrative, with characters like the Matchmaker and Yanyou providing memorable performances. The antagonists, particularly Sui He, elicit strong emotions, and while some find redemption, others remain unforgivable.
The original soundtrack complements the series beautifully, with its melancholic melodies enhancing the emotional depth of the plot.
While I thoroughly enjoyed the series, I rate it 9.5 out of 10. This slight deduction is due to Jinmi’s character arc, which, on a personal level, I found less relatable. However, this is a subjective observation and does not diminish the overall excellence of the series.
In conclusion, Ashes of Love is a mesmerizing blend of romance, fantasy, and drama, offering a rich tapestry of emotions and storytelling that lingers long after viewing.

Everlasting Longing falls into the latter category. With its stellar cast, gripping storyline, and beautifully crafted characters—both main and secondary—it offers an unforgettable viewing experience that kept me hooked until the very end.A Stellar Cast That Brings the Story to Life
One of the standout aspects of EL is its exceptional cast. Every actor, from the leads to the supporting characters (and here I’ll admit I don’t remember perfectly the names apart from Xuan Lie and Jun Qi Luo so I won’t use them!) delivered performances that felt natural and emotionally engaging. The chemistry between ML and FL was undeniable, making their interactions feel authentic and deeply moving! At the same time, the secondary characters were given just as much care and depth, ensuring that no role felt unnecessary or one-dimensional. Instead of merely existing to fill gaps in the story, they added richness and complexity, making the drama feel more immersive.
A Perfectly Balanced Storyline
A drama’s success often lies in its pacing, and EL mastered this effortlessly. The blend of action, romance, political conversations or even all those explanatory monologues of the FL, created a well-rounded narrative that never felt rushed or dragged out. Each episode had just the right amount of suspense to keep viewers on edge, emotional depth to connect with the characters and the much-needed lighter moments in between that provided warmth and humor.
Enemies to lovers! The romance was so beautifully developed, allowing the relationships -both main and secondary- to grow naturally rather than feeling forced or overly dramatic. At the same time, the action sequences were thrilling and well-executed, adding an exciting dynamic to the story. Unlike some dramas that struggle to balance intense plotlines with emotional depth, this one struck the perfect equilibrium, ensuring that every scene held the viewer’s attention.

Visually, EL was a masterpiece. From sweeping landscapes to carefully curated set designs, every frame was stunning to look at. The cinematography played a huge role in elevating the storytelling, with beautifully captured moments that highlighted the emotions of the characters. Whether it was an intimate conversation, a breathtaking outdoor scene or an intense action sequence, the visuals enhanced the experience in the best way possible. Maybe the only thing that could be better were some cgi -scenes or creatures- but that was a minor mishap in all its perfection!

Few dramas make me feel so invested that I binge-watch them in a short span of time, but this one did it. Each episode left me wanting more, making it impossible to stop watching (apart from the last episodes that weren’t yet on viki so I was forced to wait). The unpredictable twists, emotional depth and overall execution were so compelling that I found myself completely immersed.
