Oh, I see. No worries! Individuals all have different preferences of course, That is true. But in surveys 80% of autistics prefer to just be called autistic or autistic people. As far as disabled goes most who consider themselves disabled aren't offended by being called disabled really. But Autism presents so differently for every individual that some autistics don't consider themselves disabled. I understand it is tricky sorry. I am just so use to people being mean on purpose sometimes that I get defensive.

People with problems!? WOW. So offensive. We arent "people with problems", we are autistic people. Being autistic isn't a "problem" it is simply a neurotype. Our mind just processes information in a different way than those who aren't Autistic. Think of it like different operatong systems. As if allistics (non autistics) have iOS and Autistics have Android.
This will undoubtedly be another heartwarming drama. Park Eun-bin does an excellent job of portraying Asperger's…
Hi! I am autistic. I love this show so far. While I do sort of tire of the "genius" autistic trope, the portrayal feels very respectful to me and it is nice to see a capable female autistic character.
I wanted to just drop in here to share some perhaps useful info about autistics and autism.
People might like to know that Aspergers is an outdated terminology. It has connections to eugenics and the Holocaust. Due to those negative connotations, it is no longer used as a diagnosis, and most autistics prefer it no longer be used to label us. Some people cling to this diagnosis and in our community are seen as "supremacists" because they usually do so to separate themselves from other autistics, as if to say, "I'm not like those other autistics. I'm better than them."
It's just ASD now, Autistic Spectrum Disorder, for every type of autism. We don't like "high functioning" and "low functining" labels either because they really only serve to further marginalize some and deny accessibility needs to others.
Sorting us into categories is considered highly offensive to some of us so it is just best not to do that.
Anyway. This has also been an example of autistic info dumping ๐ Because Autism self advocacy and raising autism awareness is one of my special interests, just like Woo Young Woo and the law and her whales! ๐ Have a lovely day!

I'm autistic. There isnt always a reason for our special interests. It's generally just a topic we find fascinating and that brings us joy and comfort. We just like to share the things we learn about the topic we enjoy. I've had many in my life. Examples being: Opposums. Shakespeare. Fairies . folklore. Astrology.

No worries. I wasn't sure you would see my reply but I felt it was important to clarify in case of anyone that might read these comments in the future.
The first episodes are so sad... it's just a show but I don't get how doctors can be such jerks, especially towards…
Autism isn't a disease, it is a neurotype. The simplest way to explain it is that our mind simply processes information in a different way. Some autistics do consider it a disability, some do not, but it is not a disease. Calling it a disease is incorrect and highly offensive.
There was a lot of discussion at the time about that being a translation issue. Not sure what subs you were watching…
I should point out that this comment is in response to the responses to OP, sorry! ๐ And should also mention that I am only about halfway through the first episode and was very upset and looking through comments trying to find out if the ignorant attitude toward autism continues throughout the series or if it improves as the series progresses.

Treatment and cure are both super offensive and inaccurate. There is no treatment or cure for autism, as it isn't a disease or an illness. (The vast majority of autistics (80% in most polls) wouldn't want one even if there was. The attitudes toward autism in this are outdated, incorrect, and awful. Autism is simply a difference in the way our brain works. Think of it like a different operating system. The fact that a program designed for Windows won't work on Linux doesn't mean there is anything wrong with the Linux operating system. Autism is a part of who I am. Allistics would have just as much trouble functioning in a world that was designed for and by an autistic majority as we do in this world designed for and by you. Imagine if you could no longer do small talk or you would be considered weird for example. Imagine if making eye contact were considered rude and you were left constantly craving it and considered weird for liking it. But anyway, I think management would be a good term to use. Many of us can learn to recognize when we are in danger of becoming overwhelmed and having a meltdown and can learn what we personally need to do to avoid said meltdown.
@SimpingForHappyEnds I gave several valid reasons for my opinion. If you aren't going to state any of the reasons why you disagree then what is the point in commenting to tell me you disagree? Congratulations on having a different opinion I guess?
I wish they hadn't ruined it with the break up trope. It really isn't realistic at all. Not after they have a relationship. Being hesitant to form relationships makes sense. Ending them after they have already begun does not. She already loves him. Breaking up isn't going to make his death any easier. It will still hurt every bit as much. Breaking up with her only adds additional pain. Saying cruel things isn't going to make her stop loving him, it only makes loving him more painful. It doesn't protect her from anything at all. As a psychologist I feel like he would know that. It just feels like a waste of time when there are so many interesting characters and plotlines you could delve into more deeply instead.
Bae Doon Na is simply brilliant. My all time favorite actress. I would watch anything if she were cast in it, because I know she will make it amazing. All the respect and admiration for her.
