Great article! I never really watch C-drama's, but I tried the Chinese version of Hana yori dango and of course dropped it at like, episode 4 when he pushes her to the ground and has a hissy fit. I also dropped Scarlet Heart Ryeo because of that forced kiss. Sad, but I'm really sick of annoying characters like that, especially the "man pain" dudes who do all sorts of shit and it's justified as "he's just sad ok". It's all so cliche, you would think they might wanna try something new in storytelling. Instead a lot of writers and directors keep returning to cheap "shock value tropes" like rape and noncon. I guess a lot of people like watching the same old stuff, which is why a lot of this stays popular. And of course, a lot of the times shows or films also have a lot of good, interesting storytelling next to having an antiquated idea on consent. That makes it still fun to watch stuff of which we're also critical, and that's fine. Thankfully there's also other makers out there who make things that are interesting and critical of society.
You seriously need to get a life and stop watching dramas of any kind whatsoever. Good drama comes from human…
Frothymix, if you can't handle criticism about your favourite drama, why don't you just stop reading critical articles? It's not as if shit people will stop writing shit stuff that influences people to be shit, no one's getting "cancelled" by a random article on mydramalist.com, no offence to Shiro. God, people who are so "anti-sjw" are really so vulnerable to anyone saying something that doesn't agree with the status quo or their opinion. Just because horrible shit like rape and nonconsensual stuff is "part of life", that doesn't mean we just have to be "ok" with whatever happens and what we're shown on tv as "normal". Also, stuff like this is just so cliche, I guess you find it "interesting", thats your taste, I don't care. You have to accept that other people have a different take than you. Also, behaviour is taught and normalised, by whatever you're fed and you consume, whether it's your parents teaching you to "bully the girl if you like her" or some bland commercial giving you a stereotypical image of a black person. And it's not as if critical thinking is gonna stop anyone making what they want, and that's not the point. Anyone can make whatever they want, and they can expect criticism, that's how it works in the world of free speech. I guess you have your head in the clouds and naively think that we're all "freely" making up our own opinion about anything in the world anyway, lol "independent thought". And that "opinions" have no consequences on anyone in the world. And I guess being critical of something isn't "independent thought" if it doesn't align with your "independent thoughts". Might wanna read a book on psychology or critical philosophy or you know, capitalism and specifically data marketing. Might be surprised about how "free" you are about what you want or think. Or maybe read that very important text on developing independent thinking, you know, being of INDEPENDENT THOUGHT, by using criticism (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Answering_the_Question:_What_Is_Enlightenment%3F). I guess you don't believe in the effect of propaganda as well. Oh well.
And then saying "oh you're actually turned on by it, you just don't know it" like rape apologists, what the f is wrong with you man. If you like something, good for you, doesn't mean we all have to tiptoe around your feelings. If you want to bring your "totally original" arguments, great, just don't think we all have to say "AH YOU'RE SO SMART I TOTALLY AGREE". I don't.
