I must admit, I was a little taken aback by the 1987, 2007, and the 2021 photos for this series. The series has continued with the brown complexion trope in all three renditions. It is not necessary to darken the actors skin, which implies only people with brown skin are domestics. Moreover, it devolves into black face with the maid, skin color, and slapstick humor theme-sad in 2021. We do not realize how much colonialism and white supremacy shades what we see.
Came back and re-read your review, after the fact, and I have to apologize-you are right-my apologies! There are so many unexplored stories, and developments in this one, that I find myself still thinking about the characters months later. This drama needs a second series. Thank you for making me reflect.
Already seen her with a young guy, Park Bo Gum, and that was 3 years ago. It was all sorts of awkward, to me,…
Jong Ki Yong has done it before in Search WWW and he was phenomenal. I think the problem is Park Bo Gum, he is better in comedy, he can be one dimensional in more serious roles. Because of his looks, he is being typecast, and not allowed to be funny or witty.
I do respect your opinion and I agree we all need love and affection but at what price. We don’t just randomly…
I appreciate your response, but I am talking about the purpose of the series; my attempt at humor is lacking, so please pardon me.
This series is not about right and wrong or love and betrayal. It is asking us to love no matter how flawed we are. Infidelity is wrong. Trampling on the trust of those we love is wrong.
As a human that has watched women struggle with fertility, and lose, I empathize with Song Won. She lost her husband because she could not conceive, and now she is pregnant. You can have empathy for a person without condoning their behavior.
They win, I feel sorry for the mistresses! This series is so complex, it highlights the fragility of humans. This series is doing an amazing job of demonstrating how we need love, and affection; and when we do what we perceive as right, we wind up doing the wrong thing.
Case in point Pan Sa Hun he married Boo Hye Ryung because she is strong, pretty, and accomplished, all the while, knowing she was wrong for him. He admires her strength, but he has come to see that is not enough for a marriage, nor for him.
I know so many people similar to the characters portrayed in this series. I was so caught up in the infidelity, that the complexities of the characters was lost to me. This is a really emotional, and thought provoking series, although it is painful to watch at times. I find myself going away from it, and coming back to it, because the episodes are maddening, and painful.
I keep reading sexual assault in the comments, correct me if I am wrong, but was it not consensual sex? I cannot imagine that he would not have been put in juvenile detention in Korea, if he raped someone; everyone knew about it because he showed the video to people, and nothing happened to him, not one adult found out about it, and called the police. The girl allowed him to disseminate it, without reprisal.
Hey whine away! I'll totally talk with you about it! I'd like to focus on anything but the real life drama. That…
I loathe love triangles, and when Go Geon says he is going to protect the woman that has been in his heart, I started screaming. Love triangles are a distraction, it prevents the true couple from developing their relationship.
