So, how does it work - supposedly it's highly FL-centric drama (at least based on how Novel was) - I understand…
Cast order/billing is just a reflection of which of the two leads is a bigger name. It doesn't imply a significant change in focus with the story. This isn't the first time it has happened with C-dramas, for example Love Like the Galaxy 星汉灿烂 and First Frost 难哄 have the same thing as this drama.
Wang Hedi is a much bigger name than Meng Ziyi to industry people, so of course they would order him first. But since this is a romance drama, the male and female lead are expected to be near the same level of importance, so to them it's probably ok to bill the male lead first if he's notably more famous.
As for why it's this way; what I know is that Wang Hedi was eyed to play Xie Jingxing for a while (since like 2022), not to mention the IP rights are expiring, so they were desperate to get someone as popular as him. The female lead was much harder to cast, it seems like they couldn't find someone who both fits the role and is on the same level of fame/industry standing as Wang Hedi. That's all.
You might be farther into the drama by now, but I'll just say this: There's no reason to assume that he even wants…
It's show and don't tell. It's not relevant at the moment to explain why he doesn't want to go back. It's to make you ask "Why?" as a mystery, and create interest in understanding the reasons behind what he thinks.
Dafeng Season 1,; the early half especially, is about understanding who Xu Qi'an is, and his mindset of thinking. At least in my perspective.
Is this drama really worth its high ratings? I’m now at ep 13 and still am not hooked yet….im not quite sure…
You might be farther into the drama by now, but I'll just say this:
There's no reason to assume that he even wants to go back at any point, the opposite is implied in fact. You saw at the beginning how his life was kind of miserable and not admirable; who would he actually like that kind of life?
To become a high cultivation warrior that's super popular and powerful is a much better alternative to his life in the real world. Plus, he gets a second chance at life with pursuing his true passion, so he would never want to leave.
This website never has a separate section for 'special leads' or 'guest stars'. Either they are listed as a main…
That section is mainly for big actors who make cameos or relatively small roles. Not appropriate for someone playing like the 3rd most important character in the story.
I came to look for the romance tag too lol, I'll even take a slight romance atp 😭
ren min's character is supposed to see wang hedi's character ran fangxu as an uncle, which is actually much more interesting honestly, someone 1 year younger than him is calling him an uncle
Does anyone know if Liu Yi Jun is cast in the second season?
We only know that Wang He Di is back as Xu Qi An and that's it. Liu Yi Jun will more than likely come back but he will probably spend most of the season dead.
Agree with you 100%! you should see the comments of WHD fans against the other cast especially SY on Chinese social…
You're going off topic. Never once did I say this show isn't Wang Hedi focused, it's why I was never surprised on how the show is formatted and who was being brought on.
I just have problems with people saying others aren't getting screentime enough. Like what do you exactly want them to show? I can tell they are putting effort into the things they were assigned to. Zelin and Chenxiao having tired backs is good proof of that.
Chenxiao only personally chatted with 2 guests as far as we know. It might be interesting to see more of that but these are the types of things that unfortunately have to be cut out first. That isn't part of favoritism.
Look, I know that none of you are trying to attack anyone. I'm not trying to either. But if you guys have the right to complain, I can't sit by and not respond to anything that feels not right.
(I'm somewhat surprised this is the first time I was mistaken for a girl lmao)
I don't understand what you are talking about. Wang Hedi is the boss. He was chosen as the boss, he was allowed…
It doesn't matter if Wang Hedi isn't the one who pays them because they're trying to maintain a order in their workplace. Remember that they are still trying to accommodate for actual guests; real ordinary people like they are a hotel. For some people, it's part of their dignity to be professional when they work especially when some (or most even) of these guys have done. This way, it's only natural that they would need their boss to set an orderly routine.
I don't think you watched Episode 0 AKA the pilot episode. It's pretty clear that Wang Hedi suggested everyone himself, he even gave out specific reasons he wanted to bring everyone and it's with the assumption that 'this person is fit for this job.' Also do you really think the production crew would choose Wu Zelin and Zhang Chenxiao if they decided themselves? They're the most obviously Wang Hedi chosen people lol.
Look, I understand you probably first tried this show because of someone else, but it's practical for a show to focus on the person that is bringing in the most money and ad revenue. Transitioning from employee to boss is a natural progression of him from 8 years ago till now (helps Liu Tao also said he specifically is really resourceful).
If anything, Wang Hedi choosing his friends is what gives the show a more friendly atmosphere due him being the reason everyone else gets to know each other. Season 3 of Dear Inn was criticized for not having the laid-back attitude and focusing too much on the business side. (Wang Hedi was on Season 2 first) Is Wang Hedi the only reason 2026 version is more friendly? No, but we can credit him for choosing the right people for this show.
I have no objections for not feeling it with this show, this type of show for me wouldn't be enjoyable in many cases; especially if it's too business-like. But there are things that have a good reason to be where they are. If anything, I'm only annoyed that you think Wang Hedi didn't handpick his team/employees because the beginning of the pilot episode already shows that.
Agree with you 100%! you should see the comments of WHD fans against the other cast especially SY on Chinese social…
Again what are you people talking about? You even said so yourself; in the 1st episode they showed the others trying to get things in order without the boss. Showing the hustle and efforts they put in. No matter how much effort and sweat is put, they will be disorganized without the leader. (It doesn't help Xu Zhisheng was also not there.)
"This is another variety show to build his amazing guy persona who is now growing into a mature leader." Or it's just him agreeing to return to his first big variety show? He said it himself; Dear Inn is special to him because it was his first variety show as a key member. He doesn't have to build a persona if he knows that's just how he is. His personality has been consistent on every variety he's been in. It was the production crew (and Liu Tao too) who regard him as resourceful and stuff; if they believe in him, of course he would be honored and willing to accept the role as the boss.
The Wang Hedi Show.I'm pretty neutral towards WHD. But I felt like the other cast members felt like supporting…
I don't understand what you are talking about. Wang Hedi is the boss. He was chosen as the boss, he was allowed to choose everyone/anyone that works with him. He made defined roles for everyone and they all settled with it. His way of deciding roles for everyone was clear and practical; everyone has specific jobs and he helps with anything if they need it. That's what the boss does, especially when there's only 6 total employees including himself.
Inviting only his friends isn't something to be surprised about. He's the boss, he was given full freedom to choose his employees. It makes sense that he would invite friends he knows are suited for specific jobs; due to familiarity and workplace chemistry causing better flow. It also helps that with guests; he can knows a wide variety of different people that he can invite that aren't just actors.
About Chinese Restaurant, Xiaoming Ge obviously has more experience being a manager but the recent seasons are not managed by him alone. They literally have Lin Shuwei, an actual big name chef with actual restaurants he runs to keep the kitchen work flowing well (he also hardly makes mistakes when cooking). Having someone like that changes everything and he's basically the other manager when. it comes to the kitchen.
"Clearly the others are also tiring themselves out, but it's conveniently left out." Wtf? Again what are you talking about? Literally in the 1st episode they are showing how everyone working hard to organize things even without their boss, and how much chaos it causes, how tiring it is. Wu Zelin was shown getting overwhelmed with doing both cooking and other things and also having back soreness. Zhang Chenxiao had similar problems. Those are just a few examples.
Some of these complaints are understandable, but what you said about not showing the others getting tired is so absurd that I don't know how you came to that thinking.
Please let this be real and please cast the same actors and actresses!!🙏🏻
This was never a rumor; it was confirmed officially all the way back in Nov 2025 and it even has a leaked poster already. Though the only confirmed casting is Wang Hedi as Xu Qi'an again.
why is there no work from him since 2024? He was amazing in LBFD
Look out for Light to the Night (黑夜告白) releasing this April. You can also look forward to Live Long and Prosper (咸鱼飞升) releasing later this year at earliest, and 将门毒后 that is probably releasing next year. Then there's Guardians of Dafeng Season 2 (大奉打更人 第二季) that hasn't been filmed yet but will come out eventually [also it's called Guardian of Fate in the poster for some reason.]
I doubt they will cahnge character casting randomly like that, its supposed to continue from where we left off…
Why would he film another drama before January 2027? If 将门毒后 finishes filming in summer 2026, then from then until January is not too long. I also don't think Wang Hedi would not prioritize Dafeng over anything else.
Plus there's no official confirmation of January 2027.
I doubt they will cahnge character casting randomly like that, its supposed to continue from where we left off…
What are you talking about? Joy of Life/Qing Yu Nian is based on a novel that ran from 2007-2009. Dafeng is based on a novel that ran from 2020 to 2021.

As for family members, just keep watching.

By watching you can fully tell who is more important than who.
I just have problems with people saying others aren't getting screentime enough. Like what do you exactly want them to show? I can tell they are putting effort into the things they were assigned to. Zelin and Chenxiao having tired backs is good proof of that.
